    Sorry it took so long to respond, but I haven't been on in a while. As far as you first question, yes I attached them to the top plastic piece. It was pretty painless. I just removed the whole front grill piece, marked where i wanted to put them, drilled small pilot holes, and used the supplied screws. Then just ran the wiring through the firewall and mounted a switch. I'll have to double check on the transmission cooler, but ive had them on for over 6 months and there have been no issues with heat or anything. Not completely sure on the wattage(i think it's 55) but there plenty bright and come in handy often.
