Both of those racks look like they're incredibly easy to cut with a battery operated saw. I'm less worried about scratches than I am about my $2,000 bike getting taken out of my bed with minimal effort because of a cheaply made aluminum rack from China that sells for way more than it should.

Don't think they're meant for security, but I see your point.. stop at the store on the way to the bike trail for snacks/drinks.. bye bye bicycle. What do you have? A Trek?

Thule was originally a Swedish company that started back in 1942. Not sure if it was the first in the industry but today it's probably the most legit manufacturer of such carriers in the world :)
You're right they're meant for carriage mostly, but technically you can use additional safety chain from any bike shop to secure it from thieves.
