3.5L ECO Bost swap
 

Has anyone done recearch or done a 3.5 eco bost motor swap? Any Ideas? Thoughts? I have a 4.0 sohc in a 2004 xlt 4x4 and was thinking about doing a swap to the new 3.5l F-150 motor.

Do you have spare money, because it's going to cost a lot.

Its going to require a lot more than just a motor and transmission swap.
I've heard of/seen photos on the internet of a guy in Florida did a new 5.0 swap into a newer ranger.

Its not Impossible to say, but the question to ask is: How deep is your wallet?

You are going to have a hard time finding information on what must be done in detail because, to my knowledge, it has not been done.

Another one of those if you have to ask it wont happen threads but if by the slim chance the $$ and motivation is there your best bet is to just go buy the engine and begin the trial and error. You probably wont find a simple how-to on this one

i think one of the reviews i seen that someone did with an Eco boost was it was cheaper to buy the truck with the engine in it and pull it out i don't remember too well it was something i saw on YouTube

Actually the 3.5's are starting to show up in local junk yards.

and, a former member from this forum, will be doing a 3.5 swap in his 2003 ranger with in the next 12 months or so.

I agree, or see if you can't find a nice Interceptor at a public safety auction. There is an auction house out by me that I have already seen some pop up at wrecked for about $5k-$10k.

I do not know of anyone who has done or attempted a swap of the F150's 3.5L Ecoboost into a Ranger. It might fit. The engine is 29" wide across the turbos, 1" narrower that the 4.6L DOHC. The driver's side turbo is mounted high to clear the steering shaft.

I was at SEMA 2014 and I saw the 2.7L Ecoboost engine, and it is tiny! I would bet that it would fit into a Ranger perfectly. 325HP/375ft-lbs in stock form.

I don't think the swap is a question of whether or not it'll fit, it's a matter of ALL of the modifications and wiring magic you'll have to do in order to make it work properly. It can be done, but is it really worth it? I'm sure someone will do it eventually. The Coyote swap was pretty cool.

FRPP actually sells a stand alone computer/harness for the ecoboost motors to suit hot rodders. Would be an easy swap but more money than 99.99% of ranger owners are going to even consider spending

Not sure where you got your info, but FRPP does not yet sell a standalone harness for the Ecoboost V6. They do for the I4 Ecoboost, but not the V6. Timing is projected to be 2nd quarter of 2015 for the V6 harness (Manual trans only).

Haha yea, after a few hours sitting in my thinking chair I realized #1, I dont care about fuel mileage, #2 honestly the 4.0 is plenty powerful in the dirt, #3 I should buy a cobra

I see it as being a pain in the ass thats not worth my time, if I ever bother doing a swap ill do a built 302 with stand alone fuel injection.

I would love to see an ecoboost ranger though.

I hear ya, and the 302-swap is a well documented process and results in a fun truck.

An Ecoboost swap is going to be a lot more complex (and expensive) way to get 300+ HP. However, once the 2015 2.7L Ecoboost hits the street and Ford releases their wiring manuals, I will be designing a harness for engine swaps.

For a Ranger, even the Mustang's 3.7L V6 and 6R80 make a great swap for 300HP and better FE.
