4:10 gears on a 2wd?

I just got 33's put on and was thinking of swaping my gears. Is it worth it?

taknotes 05-16-2007 09:13 AM

u might already have 4.10s, i do

lifted97ranger 05-16-2007 09:22 AM

what is your engine size? what does your Safety Certification Tag say (it is inside the drivers door) under the AXL lable?

onemarine 05-16-2007 10:21 AM

its a 3.0L flex fuel. It has 3:73 gears now

Random Hero 05-16-2007 01:12 PM

i have 33s and 4.10 gears, turns the tires fine.

Redneckstone 05-16-2007 01:16 PM

what was your old tire size?

lifted97ranger 05-16-2007 01:23 PM

^^that is the other part of the puzzle....

devreaux 05-16-2007 01:38 PM

where do you find this ? I looked at the tag and could not find where to see which gears i have.. i have 3.0 liter engine.

lifted97ranger 05-16-2007 01:43 PM

on the tag inside the drivers door there is a spot that is labled "AXL"....directly under it will be either 2 numbers or a number & a letter......

then look here to find what gear ratio you have.....
https://www.ranger-forums.com/forum2...ad.php?t=37149

and we need to know what size STOCK tires your truck had....

BTW: 4.10 gears is not a "New Idea".....it has been done before....

devreaux 05-16-2007 01:47 PM

sweet so my tag says R7 under AXLE... so that means i have "Limited Slip 8.8 w/ 4.10 ratio "

this a good thing? bad thing? not to highjack this guys thread, just instead of starting my own. I normally see ppl switching their gears to this. Reasons?

people switch to a 4.10 or lower gear because they add larger tires and have to compensate somehow for the lost umph of the truck....

devreaux 05-16-2007 01:59 PM

i see.. well thanks for the info maurice i appreciate it.

onemarine 05-16-2007 02:59 PM

well the truck came with 235'sx15 and now i hav 33x12.50 15. I want the power and mpg back. should i expect problems if i do this swap or will run as if it were factory?

Red_Ak_Ranger 05-16-2007 03:04 PM

You could swap a rear axle of a ranger or explorer for the same cost as the gears alone. Definately a junkyard would be your friend.

Also, unless you're into offroading or having fun spinning out while driving, you don't really need a limited slip. To be honest a lack of limited slip is often easier to drive in bad conditiions.

Needforspeed3685 05-16-2007 04:10 PM

I will gladly sell you my 4.10 gears for VERY CHEAP. I just really need to get rid of it!

T4EaterJonny 05-17-2007 02:02 AM

DOOO ITTTT.. and throw in a locker while you're at it. :)

ranger 05-20-2007 10:56 PM

your breaking new grounds here Copernicus

IR0NS1N 05-21-2007 01:46 PM

I had 3.55s in my rear end stock with limited slip, now Im on 4.10s but I did it for more performance rather then putting on larger tires.

Fx4wannabe01 05-21-2007 02:03 PM

new stock XL 4cyl reg cabs have 4.10s already.

usually it's cheaper to find a junkyeard axle that already has 4.10s...even an 8.8 with 4.10s can be had for under $200. alot cheaper than having gears swaped out and set up.

b-n-t09 05-21-2007 06:19 PM

Guess i got ripped off, lol. Cause i have a new XL 4cyl and i have 3.73's

mines the same, i have a 07 2wd ranger with the 3.73s in it!

poopypie218 12-26-2007 07:36 PM

i have a 2002 standard cab 2x4 2.3 which gears do i have?

n3elz 12-26-2007 07:39 PM

My 3.0 4x2 came with 4.10's as an option. It's worth it to regear to get your power back, IMO. I have 4.56 gears now with my 35's.

I'm making it into a 4x4 now, but I already did the front axle with 4.56 gears as well. It works well on this truck with 35's.
