service truck setup

service truck setup
so i have had this idea for a while of puttin together a setup for on trail repairs. the idea starts with mounting a side by side setup of a generator and a compressor on a steel frame in the bed of my stepside. right over the axle. and have it removable with 6 or so pins or bolts. in front of that have the air tank, also mounted to the steel frame, for using power tools as a compressor wont store enough air to run them for long. i was thinking about putting a roof rack to hold 2 tripod lights and shovel, hi lift, support bars, etc. in back of the gen and compressor, i would like to have two reels, one with a 150' extension cord, and the other with about 200' of air line. this is the basic idea, i would like to know if anyone has seen this or if anyone has ideas on how to make this better or more efficient. i have a 99 stepside, 3.0 with a 5 speed stick. 2 inch lift, and i already have a light bar and strobe setup for roadside work.

Sounds like a start, but would you really need the generator? Most tools are cordless or air anymore. 200' air hose/reel would be quite expensive, maybe you could get away with 50' of reeled hose and have another 100' just rolled up and thrown in the back. Carry a couple of 2.5 gallon jugs full of misc fluids plus one of clean water. I haven't been let down by my handtools, tie downs/towstrap, misc fluids and 2' breaker bar. The ideal to me would be a service body stocked with nuts/bolts, welder, full stock of tools and crane. Someday...someday.

Nice idea… but a pain to remove and put back in.
How about putting it on a cart/rail system with wheels on the cart and a stand to roll it off the truck and on to the stand and vise versa.
Roll it off and on as needed, pins to hold it in place and its own weight will keep it in the bed.
Then you can make a Camper Cart or Off-Road Cart and roll it on and go for a run.
How about a Dump Cart, or a larger flat bed cart… ok too much !
