Isn't Al a pretty good thermal conductor. So wouldn't that transfer heat better. You want something with a thermal barrier. They should have something at a hardware store like Home Depot.

I wouldn'y worry too much about the heat under the hood. Once driving the air circulates so quickly that unless your actually using the truck at the track, going for time, it really doesn't make a difference. Now if your looking to protect an air filter, thats a different story. ZOOM once used a mailbox. I used a newspaper tube. Both worked perfect.

I understand what you want to do. I did a similar mod on my old Nissan Pickup after I put a cone type filter on it. I assume you want to build a barrier behind the filter to block heat/hotair from the engine while allowing cool air in from the front. When I did it I used metal flashing, like what you would use under the last layer of siding on your house to keep water from splashing up under the siding. It was a pretty ghetto setup and I doubt it had any effect. I used tin snips to cut it and drilled holes and riveted it together. Really all you need to do is isolate the filter. I think it could be done leaving the top of the box open with a rubber gasket to seal against the underside of the hood.
Here is one I found on the web when I was researching it, it's way expensive but good to stimulate ideas Air Intake Heat Shield

this topic is 4 months old.... I think he's a little more concerned with his daily ( the civic) or the recent fender bender....

Ryan P. check the dates on topics before you go posting, topics usually die for a reason, unless you have a legitimate question then by all means bring it back to life. I'm not sure if " aluminum tape?" was a question or suggestion but just keep an eye for the dates
