On mine if I needed to I could have the axe in my hand before my feet hit the ground(gravity holds it in place pretty much an industry standard around here the way we run them) if I needed it in a hurry and I have no prob with mine rusting but I have soft covers on the edges( I like mine as close to shaving sharp as I can get it) which don't need to be removed if your in a hurry. If you had a rollbar or something like that I'm sure you could adapt the way it's done on a log truck with a little creativity.Could be mounted on the inside of the bed on the sides using the same method.
Good luck,

Yeah I'd love to see a picture if you could find one somewhere.

Why not be like a jeep and put one across the hood, like they do the Jacks....Id just buy a gun rack and have one slot open for a rifle and the other an axe, thats if you want it in the cab. Mine is in my toolbox

the only thing about the axe/gun mount, in the truck, is

"axe to the head = FTL"

unless you are attempting suicide, then in that case it would be FTW :fing26:

well, im smart enough to make dang sure its secure. I mean whats the chances of an axe to the head...Toolbox safety is def the best bet/

How often do you really need an axe? But i would mount it on the bedside.

You dont ever need one. Your going to mount it and someone is going to put it into your bedside or somthing. lol:biggrin:

i have mine in my tool box but if you are looking for a good axe buy a fiskar. i bought this one (click me). its super sharp and if you ever break the handle its replaced for free.

Lol I'll have to take my sarcasm somewhere else I guess.
And allow me to mention again that when I first started this thread I stated that I was considering mounting it inside the cab. As in, not accessible to unmount and put into my bed. I do agree with you, though. If it's mounted outside the cab it has to somehow be padlocked or something to prevent theft or somebody thinking its funny to do some damage.

--weezl-- 01-21-2010 03:23 AM

i had a shovel mounted to the back of the cab (front of the box, inside the box) of my f-250, with no tailgate, for probably 6-8 months, and it never got messed with...

RangerMarsh 01-21-2010 09:10 AM

Hm, thats interesting. I wonder if an axe is more or less likely to be messed with. It seems like you never really can tell if something is going to be a safe bet or not. People will break into your window to grab a pair of cheap sunglasses or something sitting on your seat, but won't mess with the shovel strapped in your bed.

I do like that idea though, mounted on the front inside wall of the bed. After I get mine Line-X'ed in a month or two that might be pretty cool to have something mounted there.

i used metal broom clips, they are spring loaded, have 2 pieces, one is the base, and has an arm that comes out, the other pivots and pinches what ever in the middle... worked great, never had my shovel come off while wheeling!

RangerMarsh 01-22-2010 10:54 AM

Pics?

--weezl-- 01-22-2010 12:44 PM

nah i don't, i never took many pics of that truck

chainfire 01-22-2010 02:20 PM

I have a shovel, axe and Hi-Lift in my bed. Shovel along the side, highlift the other sides, and the axe along the front of my box. You could easily do that with an axel. Just put a thin layer of lithium-based grease on it, then it wont rust.

There are a couple of guys I wheel with that have buggies and they just mount them along the B pillars, or where ever there is space.
