Can a Gen I body fit on a Gen IV + frame?

Here is my new idea, I love and miss my First ranger, a 1988 2wd ext cab. 2.9 liter V6. Well I want another car project so I have been toying around with ideas, the first one was a 1979 Cadillac Coupe deVille that I would turn into a street touring with an LS engine, 94-96 impala rear end and a T-56 six speed. But the down side to that is that all the cars I can find that are decent enough to work with are too original to play with.

So anyway, I keep coming back to my ultimate range, a first gen ranger with an LS based engine (probably and LQ4 and a T-56 with an upgraded suspension for handling. Now I think it would be easier to start with a 98+ 2wd Ext cab frame since it already has SLA's and coils. I believe they also have a rack and pinion as well. They look to be the exact WB and Wheel track from what I've been reading. So in Theory they should be able to swap.

What do you think?

With enough patience, a saw zall, a welder and a ton of know how, anything is possible.

I am pretty sure the only differences are the mounting points for the front end.
