Dual alternators
Has anyone done it? Can it be done?
I was thinking about getting an extra battery to run all my accessories off and was wondering if there was anyway to hook up an extra alternator to keep the battery charged. |
not a lot of room to add the extra alternator.....IF you took the A/C off i could see it being possible with custom brackets, but other than that it wont fit....
|
in my 92 ranger i had dual optima yellow tops and they were always charged perfectly. mnever had a problem
|
I did it on a 2.9L with v-belts non A/C. Can post pics after work.

I would do an HO alt with 2 batts. Put one in your toolbox.
It's super easy to do too!! I can help. |

What you need is 2 batteries, and an isolation kit. Both batteries will charge together, but you can drain one while the other one remains at full charge.

With all the electronics in the new vehicles today, Don't ever try and connect 2 batteries in series, which will give you 24V! |
Parallel will be 12v. I had it on my old car without an isolator.

yeah ive seen trucks(not rangers but still) with 12 batts
as long as you do it parallel your in the clear ive also seen dual 220 amp alts on a suburban.. alot more room under the hood haha |
1 High Output alternator is all you want to do......
Running 2 dosen't make sense when HO alternators are very inexpensive......It would coost more to set 2 up.......
