do it, but remember... flats and satins are extremely sensitive to damage and to get the desired effect and look, you need to hit it after with a clear thats made for flat and satin paint. that is what makes the difference in painting flats.

actually thinking about doing this myself, as i am having a hell of a time finding paint that matches my current color.

I worked years ago at a automotive paint store, back then there was no such thing as a flat black there was a low sheen black that we used on the Mach 1 mustangs hoods. the stuff was great and your applied just like regular automotive paint( No special tricks or skills needed).

The thing you need to consider is the trim and wheels that will make or break the entire look.
If you view the pictures in this tread you will see all the wheels are black and no chrome.

I say do it and show the world how bad *** it really looks...

Most people dont realize it but most of those high end cars are NOT painted. They have a vinyl wrap w/ a matte laminate on top. Whos going to paint a $250k Lambo satin black? Im sure that resale would be nice.

I love satin but please dont use black primer or john deere blitz. They fade and chalk like no other. Summit has a 1 stage urethane satin black and would be your best bet.

Satin black cars are awesome... So is satin white with the right amount of black accents

Also Speaking of Chalk Board i know a stoner around here that painted his VW Bug with chalk board paint and has a thing of chalk on it so people can write things on his car

The truck has a bunch of dents cause I flipped it on its side before I painted it. Its not the paint.

actually thats wrong...google a company called hot rod flatz. they have all different(when i say different, almost every color you could imagine), they come in a kit for around 250 bux, its almost like a primer, and can be done at home in a makeshift spray booth(or plastic lined garage) thats what im looking to do when i do my bodywork...im going with the desert tan or champagne(or go with a camo wrap)...people use these paints on low budget show trucks and they turn out really well...and since they are like a primer, if u wanna shiney paint job u are all set

and here's it cleaned off after a car show

^ damn thats nasty. this thread inspired me and i decided to try to paint my long board satin. turned out not too bad for a rattlecan job. wet sanded with 1500 grit between coats of paint and clear. used a whole can of paint and a whole can of clear coat for about 2.5 square feet. turned out pretty decent. definitely things i would do differently next time though. i turned my bathtub into a paint booth, worked great except that i ended up pretty goofed out on fumes

wouldnt the clear coat defeat the whole purpose of a satin/flat paint job? I know they make satin clear just not in a can

yup it does imo.. the black ranger at the top of page 3 has clear on it as you can see.. imo if you spray flat black on a truck then put clear coat on it, it looks like it was painted gloss black..
it does have a dull tint to it but still.
