Manual or automatic transmission?

When key is turned on does the "CEL"(check engine light) come on for a few seconds and then go off?

Try this:
Turn key on, count to 3 and turn key off(fuel pump runs for 2 seconds only, listen, you should hear it run)
Repeat this 3 times(fuel pump runs for 6 seconds more, this builds up fuel pressure)
Then try to start engine
If engine runs longer but still dies you have a fuel leak or faulty check valve in fuel tank.

If you can test fuel pressure it should be 65psi at the schrader valve on the fuel rail.

Other test to see if problem is fuel or spark would be to get some Starting Fluid(ether) and remove the air tube on the intake, have some one try to start engine while you spray starting fluid into the intake, if engine stays running while you spray but dies as soon as you stop spraying then you have a fuel problem.
If engine dies regardless of spray then spark is the problem.

Check if you have 12volts at one of the coils(center wire) when key is on.

The ignition switch under the steering column sends power out on different wires when key is turned to START or RUN(on)
If power is going out in START position but as soon as you release key to RUN position power could be cut, so engine dies.

Throttle body??

Unless it is missing it wouldn't effect engine starting, if it was running rough then maybe a vacuum leak....in throttle body

You have an electrical(no spark) or a fuel problem from your description.

No CEL when you turn on the key, assuming it worked before, means computer is off and engine can't run with no computer, check fuses in engine fuse box.
And in cab fuse box.
PITA, but check each one

Throttle body is a mechanical device:
Main air passage
throttle shaft and throttle plate
IAC air passage
throttle linkage

So not sure what electrical part you are referring to?

Have you checked Inertia Switch (or fuel shut-off or Fuel Pump Shut Off)? You can google for image. Should be located behind the passenger side kick panel
