jerry can mounting ideas.

jerry can mounting ideas.
The gas tank on my ranger is way too small. I want to carry one or two jerry cans but i can't think of any possible way to mount them that will not either be dangerous cause reduced clearances cost a fortune or block the tail gate .
I can only think of front bumper which is a bad idea in head on collision and blocks air flow also then where will i put my kc lights . yakima type rack but its alot of money and the fuel would be directly over the passenger area.they don't make a rack that i can find for my high rise camper shell. swing away tire carrier isn't available. rear bumper will block tail gate use. are there any other options?obviously fuel in the bed of my truck is a bad idea since it has a carpet kit and don't want it to spill on rough road or roll over.

i'm avoiding the bed because i sleep in there and have a nice carpet kit .i also have it loaded with camping gear , sleeping bags, pillows , etc lots of stuff i don't want gas on. I've never owned a jerry can so i can't say for sure but i imagine the thing is bound to leak sooner or later . A few of the offroad books i have say don't mount anywhere you don't want it spilled because its bound to happen . my gas can for a lawnmower always ends up leaking i would imagine the jerry can would too .
also ..... there basicaly is no metal in the bed to mount it..my carpet kit is simple and home made but basicaly i did it like this . I made a box the same elevation as the wheel wells.the box sits up front and takes the entire area from the wheel well forward and goes all the way across left to right. at the back i made another identical box going from the tailgate to the wheel well and all the way left to right but i left the front off the box twards the tailgate so i can use the box for storage (fits my hi-lift perfectly). then i set plywood with carpet ontop. The wheel well ssupport the center and i just put some rubber on top the wheel weel to protect it from scratches. this leaves a little cargo area where i store stuff i don't need to access like extra water. .... it may be hard to picture that ... what i'm left with is just the difference from the top of the wheel well to the bed rail. don't really know how i can mount a jerry can in there. I'll post some pictures in a few days.
the duff tire carrier is awesome i didn't realize the mod to mount it was that simple. too bad it cost a fortune and i already bought a 265/70/16 for under the bed ... i should have held out ,bought the tire carrier so i could have a place for the gas can and even more important so i could have a matching 265 75 16.... one day when i get a flat i hope it won't mess up my front diff or rear LS if i slowly limp back on a tire one inch smaller .... its the same diffrence as stock tire size compared to the spare tire size . manual says don't go over 10 mph don't go further than 50 miles in 4x4 on a spare... oh well . maybe i can get the duff carrier in the future but i really wish the bumper wrapped around the sides to offer protection from the wheel well to the bumper. then with sliders i'd be ready for those boulders to come get some lol ..
thanx for the input i'll get some pics up and maybe that will help .
