My air box mod

I keep reading that the snorkel mod just lets the motor pull in hot engine air I decided to try something. Let me know what you think.

I haven't driven it enough to know. I'm going up in the mountains tomorrow so I'll see how it pulls through the mountain grades. I had it before with the snorkel out but not with the part feeding it cool air.

I hope you dont do any wheelin in water. I opened my box up like that and I hydrolocked my motor twice from water splashing up over the bumper and going right in that opening into my airbox.I now have a cowl snorkel with a 3" gate valve on the front of the box to close off when I go wheeling but can leave open for daily driving.

It's really not much different than stock. The air box itself is the same except for the snorkel. The bottom has a drain hole and it looks like it would take a tidal wave to flood it out.

It aint the tidal wave you should be worried about...its the tornado sucking everything up into the motor!

I get what you mean but I'm not to worried about it. I just think my mod for about .50 cents is pretty cool.

I drove through the mountains today and the truck pulled the grades just fine. I can't say acceleration from a stop is any different but it seems at highway speed the roll on acceleration is maybe better. Passing the slow cars and trucks going uphill seemed better. There is some sound after all just not as loud as it was without the part I modified. I don't know what to call that part.

I think you will be fine unless you are doing some major water crossings or splashings. It really shouldn't be any different from stock in terms of water getting in the intake.

It's not much different than stock just outside air only. I have been driving it now for a few days and I honestly can say that acceleration from like 45 to 60 is improved. The tires aren't about to break loose or anything but it's noticeable.

"NOW THE TRUCK IS GETTING COLD AIR AND EVERYONE CAN SEE I USE MY WASHING MACHINE AS A WORK BENCH."

lol thats great stuff man. I have a MAC intake on mine, and I love it, but it is basically an engine heat intake in traffic. If you're moving, the intake air temp drops a lot according to my Scangauge. Man I love that thing.

Looks like a good idea. I like it. Good work.
