Pondered the Idea of turning an old explorer into a quad cab ranger?
Not that I'm thinking about doing it, just curious if anyone has ever thought of it, or even tried it?

I bought a total-loss Explorer for parts a year ago that I was tempted to try it with and some other stuff, but ended up selling it to reclaim my back driveway. I think it'd be pretty cool, but the bed would only be about 2ft long unfortunately. I think to make it still "classify" as a truck you'd have to stretch it out a bit and add about 12-18" of bed behind the rear door.
Would be cool to see completed though!

I was thinking even a long bed, but that may be way long and just look weird.
By saying making and explorer a quad cab ranger, I assume it to have a seperate cab and bed. Not going to be fun to make happen. Espicially in the rear door department.
I too have seen tons of XJ's and even BII's converted to have a pickup bed. Pretty neat rigs. SHOOT, even a couple Subaru wagons converted. (can't remember the model designation at this time, but mid 80's to 92ish.)

Maybe,
hardest part is the doors though.
Thats why I was thinking maybe closing up the back of an explorer may be easier than trying to fab doors.

Oh man, do you mean the "Brat"...that was stock like that. It was the "pre Baja" or whatever that recent thing was...the Brat, what a GREAT hick car. I remember guys putting the back seats in, hell they may have even come from the factory with those seats, cna't remember!
nonononono I don't mean the brat! I know those and have always wanted one!! lol. I'm talking a GL10/Loyal wagon with the back windows cut out and hte tailgate moved forward creating a tiny little bed..
Now you got me searching cell phone pics from like 05 now. LOL!

He's here too....all the major sites too I believe. I can't remember for the life of me his name. But he called it the MX2 or MX3? It's done and complete and was at the SEMA show this year in Vegas outside the main entrance.
oh... "quad cab" to me is an extended CAB with 4 doors, CREW CAB im assuming is what you meant to say.. which is a 4 door whatever..
ya i agree with sniper_101. unless you extend the frame a bit the bed would be roughly 2ft long..
its like taking a full sized bronco and taking the roof off...
now on the exploder if you cut the rear doors off it would look sweet!!
