need help
i have a 87 super cab 4x4 5spd ranger with a 2.9 i was wondering if a 4.0 would fit in my truck i want to change the tranny out also can someone help and what year 4.0 will i need to do this

pre 98, IIRC. Youre gonna need the harness, tranny and motor...plus some patients....but i think if youre already gonna swap motors, why not just do a 302 swap and call it good?

Well if it gas milage you want toss in a 2.5Lima or the 2.3 duratech....way good gas milage! But for power your gonna want the 4.0. Try and get one from a 4x that way you wont have to track down a tranny pan for a 4x.

what is a 4x that is why i am doing away with the 2.9 it dosen't have enough power i'll think of a better one next time

4x= 4by aka 4 by 4 or 4x4

Doesnt a 5.0 get better gas mileage than the 4.0? That is if you keep your foot off the floor.

2.9's can be made to run, camcraft makes heads and cams, jba makes headers, , Ihad my 88 runnin in the 9's on the 1/8 mile.
