I don't think it would be worth it. Finding a 6 speed to bolt up to the stock engine would be a hassle.

Although a 6 speed with a V8 with true dual exhaust on a 6 inch suspension lift and 33's sounds hawt.

Ahhhhh, I can't wait!

Most 6spds do not give you an extra overdrive. Alot of times they are an extra gear to bridge the gap between 2nd and 3rd. And besides, a ranger can only go so fast lol

actually some of the modern automatic transmissions have multiple overdrive gears.

the new GM 6 speed automatic is double overdrive.

there is also an 8 speed automatic available in one of the import SUVs, i forget which one off the top of my head..

anyways, probably not realistic for a ranger!

I think Gear Vendors makes an overdrive unit for your truck.

yea they do...... but me, my first born, leg, arm, and many many other body parts wouldent touch the price for the damn thing lol

but it would be neat if the truck came with a 6spd stock.

If lower R's is all you want then higher gearing in the rear will accomplish the same thing for a much lower price. But then you'll low end grunt when you off road. If you just want it because it "looks cool" I can think of a lot cheaper ways to do that. But hay, it's your truck so whatever floats your boat. If you can find one that will fit your track and your budget, I say go for it.

Lower RPM's are not a way to get better mileage...the engine's gotta be in it's powerband to produce torque in order to keep speed...

imo...if you have a low gear ratio, meaning high rpms on the freeway in 5th, that's the only way you'll gain anything by doing a double overdrive or an over drive unit like a gear vendors.
