Performance Chips for my Ranger

I've seen some pictures online about this chip that boosts horsepower by 70 and mpg savings of up to 7mpg. Has anyone gotten it? It's a GF performance chip. Thanks!

Any legitimate website that sells performance parts i.e. Summit Racing or JEGS Performance Auto Parts - Holley - Billet Specialties - Edelbrock - MSD - Moroso - Mr Gasket or AutoAnything | Auto Accessories & Aftermarket Parts | Truck Accessories & Car Accessories - Floor Mats, Tonneau Covers & Car Covers. Or try a local performance shop that is close to you. Also the classifieds on this forum sometimes have guys selling ones too.

Fred @ Rogue Performance (Rogue Performance Custom Tuning)

Don @ LaSota Racing (SCT X3)

Those places would only sell the generic tuner. For the SCT X3 setup (generally regarded as the best available for our trucks) - you want to get one with Ranger specific 'custom tunes' from a place like what I listed above. Much better than a generic tune from a big box store.

Yes like most all have said above, be carefull when getting computer chips for any vehicle. Even if your vehicle has specific computer chips to buy for it! Most chips require permanent modification to your wiring. And if its not vehicle specific there is no garruntee on what gains you should be expecting before purchasing the product and trying it out. What i have done and recommend for all car enthusiasts to do is to take your Ranger to a local dyno shop. Have them run it a few times up on the dyno and reprogram your current ECU for the car's peak (performance/mpg) your choice. I don't think it cost me much more over 150 or so. This is the best solution for a ECU because the reprogramming they do on the dyno is not only vehicle specific but also Uniquely for your exact car. All cars have tollerance ranges for measurments on every part, including your pistons and cylinder heads. yours could be at the top of the range, the low end, or right in the middle. A preset performance ECU chip will not know your specific car and they will never be able to beat a dyno tune. with a dyno tune you could see up to 30hp and about 5 or 6mpg (not both at the same time though). I have a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT 3.0L V6 5 Speed two wheel drive. and went from 132hp i think was the number to 158hp at the rear wheel and a gain of 2mpg. Good Luck and Long Live Ford!
