Sweet front bumper idea!

Anyone ever done this to a ranger, particularly a 2001 ^ model?
I think it is simplistic enough to make, just might take some time...
You know what after I get some feedback I might think about fabbing one up!

Only problem is it looks VERY heavy. Might be more suitable to superduty's and so on. That plus a winch and so forth makes for a very heavy Ranger!

It's really a nice design and certainly heavy duty -- I just wonder if it's worthwhile weight wise?

What if you made it out of aluminum or an aluminum alloy?

HEAVY. It'll look good, but hugely heavy on our little trucks.

That would sure solve the weight issue. I don't know how hard or expensive that would be, but it sure would be unique as far as I know and that lower weight would be a big help in some offroad environments.

There really are no aftermarket bumpers for 01+ Rangers somone needs to start a company that just deals with 01+ Rangers just think you will be so ahead of the curve in about 10 years when all our trucks are just offroad beaters!

i'm sure if you were able to get your truck to roadarmor that they would do something custom for you.

thing is, there bumpers cost anywhere from a couple thousand to a few thousand bucks... NOT WORTH IT

we got our f250's custom bumpers done by Tough Country in El Campo, Texas...

turned out really well..

steel would be too heavy, aluminum would be to flimsly and wouldn't protect anything, and chrom-oly is EXPENSIVE!

forgot to mention in above post.....

I am about ready to start build a bumper for my ranger.....similar in style to the roadarmer ones, but alot less bulk. I'll post pics whenever the heck I get around to building it.

What are you making it out of?
Wouldn't an aluminum/something alloy, while stronger than aluminum and lighter weight than steel mixture probably be the way to go?

I like how that bumper has really good protection of the entire front end it looks really heavy duty .

If you plan on a winch set it up so u can quickly swap it from front to the back using a hitch . they have ones that have dual mount. A old 4x4 tow truck driver who winched me out the sand said your better off with it on the back cuz you drive into a dead end and want to winch it back out not further into the rough stuff .

The only thing i would change in the bumper design is how it hangs down.it looks good but i think it could be better ... I would want to go with a design that really maximizes approach angle. The main reason i say that is not hill climbing or getting over a huge boulder as most people would think. the reason is turning around on a narrow trail. You can roll forward a few more inches or feet without hitting rocks etc. This means a 25 point turn may now be 10 points . The turn around is the worste part , especialy in a stick when its off camber! Oh , how it makes me long for a wrangler ! so yeah , if you do narrow trails alot its something to consider . I can't wait till i take out the front valance while turning around so i have an excuse for a new bumper and skid plate !

I'm also looking for a bumper but the local fab shop is crazy and wants $2grand for a bumper.
Check out my thread, there are a few pictures in there of a sweet bumper on a Nissan.

Like christian said, 2g's for a custom bumper is about the norm.

Aluminum might be lightweight, but it's a b!tch to weld. I think your best bet would be to try something like 3/16" plate. I'll be making something similar for my truck one of these days, along with a matching rear bumper.

i think he said it was all 1/8" and around the winch mount was 1/4

haha 2 grand for a custom bumper.. i had mine built for $450 out of 1/4" steel... tough as hell too.... i guess you just need to find the right people to build it for ya.. but mine certainlyl isn't as pretty as those but i bet if you spend 2k on it you're gonna be worried about messing it up or something

Those are some serious looking bumpers! But I can see how they would be Torsion Bar Breakers on a Ranger

That looks pretty sweet!
Though I think I'd want something bigger, maybe with a chromed or diamond-plated skid-plate underneath.
