halo idea
alright. has anybody attemped to make a halo glow around the larger bulb on the (94) projector headlights? i think im gunna get em friday when i get paid. i need new lights cuz i drilled holes in the tops for them ****ty strobe lights. then i took em out and a bunch of condensation builds up and the bulbs blow up. and i broke a corner whilst running into a garbage can at 30mph.
these are the lights if you don't know what the hell im talking about:

Alright, well, me and a buddy are taking on this one with his '99 cougar, then if that goes well, we're going to do my fog lights, becuase i don't have the projector headlights yet.
we found out that you need 2 LED's per halo, a 220 ohm resister per 2 LEDs, and, what were using, is that little plastic peice off your household blinds that makes them rotate up or down, well, you need the hollow and clear one i guess. A heat gun to bend the plastic rod and to make little grooves in it to reflect more of the lights.
I'll let ya know how it goes, i think tomorrow were going to work on it some more, his parents owning and running an electrical shop is going to make these things much easier.

I made some:
Bout halfway down the page: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2462383/1 But I recently replaced em with the same lights without the halos cause one of them started flickering and going all weird.
If I do it again I would not use LEDs I would use CCFLs like here: http://www.eefl.cn/ccflring.htm CCFLs are brighter (harder to install granted, but daylight visible) than LEDs.
found another site for CCFL rings http://www.oznium.com/circle-ccfl

Those particular lights have projectors for fog lights not the main beams the main lights take a standard 9007 halogen bulb, some might be tempted to use an HID capsule in them (I was) but I don't think they are focused enough nor designed for HID bulbs/capsules. I am pretty sure you could use HID in the fog lights though since they are a projector. I may do this since the 35W bulbs in them now are kind of dim, but I may not have them aimed correctly yet.
As to how I made mine, after some searching ebay I managed to find an LED ring set from the UK if I remember right. Then I did the old bake the headlights in the oven trick to open them up, I then epoxied the rings to the outer edge of the light bulb bucket inside the housing after removing a ton of extra plastic from the LED rings. when all was said and done they looked ok at night without the headlights on but the LED rings were kind of dim and never bright enough for me personally, hence my wanting to use CCFL rings next time if there is one.
I am reasonably sure that a proper projector assembly could be made to fit into the main headlight bucket with out too much modification, making them into a modded true 100% projector headlight. I have considered it from time to time, but getting real HID projectors costs money, money. Last time I looked a used set of Hella or Bosch projectors with the HID capsules and ballasts was around $600 for the set.
If the big free money truck ever stops by and dumps a pile of cash on my lawn I would do a full projector mod in a heartbeat, but until then I will settle for what I have now. I do think a 100% HID projector with CCFL halos around both the main projector and the little fog light projector would look sick.

damn dude, that really bummed me out. i was really excited on using that projector. but if they're only 35 watt bulbs in there, its really no point. why the hell would they put the fog lights right in the same bezel or whatever as the headlights? that doesn't make sense to me.
the bulb in the projector, is it just like a bulb in a fog lamp? or is it an actually projector bulb?
i was planning to us the projector as my low beam, and the other one as my high beams.
thanks alot, your a life saver

I had planned the same thing till I actually got them, It would have been nice if the sellers told folks up front that the "projector" was a fog light. I am not 100% sure but I think that the shape of the reflector on the main lights is technically a projector reflector but is not a projector like you would expect to see (like on a BMW) here is a good source of information about everything you ever wanted to know about HIDs and projector lighting units. http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/ and more specifically an article about the difference between headlight types http://faqlight.carpassion.info/hl-systems.htm

HAHA. i did the same thing with the trash can at 30 mph. lol. And as for it looking like a beamer. screw beamers. if it isnt a truck, it sucks, my truck could whoop any beamers butt anyways. "Offroad" :P
How long until you plan on having this done? are you going to take pics? (Befor-After)
I WANNA SEE!!! :P

well, its going to be a while until i do this to my truck, reasons being
A) i don't get my license back until nov 5th
B) i still have to replace the slave cylinder
C) needs tires
D) tail light (left), junk yard hopefully
then i'll get the projector head lights, which DrMacZed pointed out that, the projector is more of a fog light than a head light. so i'd have/want to get an HID kit, which will be another $200, and then i might as well just make the projector part my full time high/low beam. so idk. its going to be a while, but, i was dumb and drilled holes in the tops of my bezel thingies for ghetto strobes, and now they get condesation in there, and i broke out a turn signal, so i'll get the lights/corner combo off Ebay.
we did get this done on my buddis cougar though, its not visable in the day, but at night it looks really cool.
i can't wait to get it done.

If you really want halo lights, I bought fog lights with the halo ring around them for like $70 back in June off of ebay. I cant remember the name of thembut they are bright as hell and I havent had a problem with them yet. I have the 4x4 valence on my 97 and the foglights fit in nicely with a little bit of gap around the outside. i think they measure 4" in diameter. I know its probably not as cheap as doing it yourself but it saves alot of hassle.
Here are ones that are pretty well the same..different company though i think
