The Next Generation Ranger...

OK guy and Gals,
what would you like to see in the next generation Rangers? I would like to see the following: A V8 engine option with an Old School F100 body styling from the late 60's and early 70's with chrome accents. That would be Kool.

The only problem with that: The body wouldn't be aerodynamic enough so the general consumer wouldnt appreciate it... but the V-8 is a definite..

Perhaps give us teh option of a supercab AND longbed, I wouldnt mind the little bit longer wheelbase for a proper sized bed Although.. that steps into the F150 range, so I suppose a V-8 Supercab, w/ 6' bed would probably work well for me.. power everything.. and perhaps the option of added things, sort of like the FX4 edition, but pumped up a slight bit from that, like a body installed aftermarket style lift or something..

Hi again Mike,
Yeah the aerodynamics would be uneconomical but it would definately be kool though, and with todays lighter materials it would get about the same (or pretty close to it) MPG's.

Hi Trigger,
That would be nice. Here's and Understatement. The V8 option would be the most picked option. I am waiting to hear from a member known as D. as to what he thinks. I did apologize to him personally. We may have said some things we shouldn't have. I got Temporarily banned because of it. He probably did too who knows. But that's water under the bridge and those were some killer options. The Hydraulic Hood lifts would be real nice.

The V8 would defnitly not be the most picked option. Most people buy Rangers to get a good truck that gets good gas mileage, not everyone needs a V8. I wouldn't get one...

Hi 04Blackedge,
Well that is true in some ways. But so far on this thread You're the only one that doesn't want a V8 so far. But it would be nice though to have this as an option though. instead of 2 engine options you'd have alot more choices for engines and alot more aftermarket part choices too.

Something has to be done to the Ranger to stay main stream. It's already out lasted one counter part, the S10's. The Dakota will probably be next. They're the only ones with a V8 option.

But then again you have to look at this site as a small percentage of Ranger enthusiasts. All the schools and big corporations that have fleets of Rangers don't require a V8. It would be nice to have as a option, I agree with that.

I agree too. this is only a small portion of ranger owners. The guys in here are mainly performance oriented though. The fleet owners, schools and those type people only get the features that they need rather than go all out like alot of people do. I got one guy coming and bugging me to death about turboing his 4 banger Ranger right now. I have already told him no on more than one occasion. If he comes back I'll be pressing charges against him for harrassment and trespassing. He just doesn't get it. But you are right. They do need to update the interior badly and even add a few more paint schemes too. When I first got into mine before the stereo swap, I'd swear it was like my 97 XLT on the inside with the exception of the Tachometer. Same interior lighting and everything except for the console. That's the only changes I noticed. And those changes were because the 97 model I had was an automatic.

i dont want a v8, worthless IMO in a ranger its supposed to be a compact truck!

i would like to see the Brazilian Ranger from 05-06 here in the states with the 3.0L turbo charged diesel with crew cab(with the short bed), leather seats and either a 6 speed auto or manual.

thats it. otherwise leave it. i like the dash, the interior, the seat style, the suspension, frame etc...

kool...

Those are some good ideas guys. But the diesel engine mentioned earlier would put it out some people's reach. Diesels are expensive. and expensive to operate too. If you don't change your own oil it runs about $20.00 to $25.00 bucks, on a diesel, the highest I seen was about $85.00 bucks on the civilian side. Commercial side usually runs about $135.00 bucks just for an oil change.

First off doubt it will be called a ranger. I would like to see a crew cab, diesel, and more off road options on the 4wd. A V8 is not needed due to gas will be 5 buck a gallon by then...but would be cool if they produced a supercharged V8 in a midsize,be like the lighting's little brother.

not really run amsoil or mobil 1 and dont change it but once a year. a diesel will run and run and puts out the TQ that some of us would die for when you start running bigger tires. Also MPG would be in the mid 20s from the factory, who knows the possibilities when aftermarket gets ahold of it

I really like the Ranger interior, its put together nicely, works great for what I need. A 6-speed Auto would be fantastic though. I think with a 4-door it makes the bed to small, I use all of my bed way to much to get one. It would be a sweet option though.

EXACTLY!!! Bring back the manual transfer case!!! Make the electric an option!! Either v8, or I4 turbo diesel. GOTTA be a true 4dr/Crew cab WITH a 6.5' bed!!...no wussy 3' beds here! Keep it a truck, rather than an suv with a short bed......(sport trac).

But unfortunately, I feel as though none of that would happen. I believe the ranger truck is gone with the wind, just as the dodo bird. This is the only truck that was still a true compact truck(add colorado/canyon....they are kinda small but still bigger than the ranger)....all the rest are now truely midsized.

lol the 6.5' bed would not make it a compact truck any more. they are long enough as it is.

if you need the 6' bed get an extended cab, otherwise 4' bed and crew cab.

thats my opinion.

I would like to see a 6-speed manual; my rpm's at highway speeds are higher than I'd like 'em to be!

I'm definitely feelin a diesel and a 6speed!!! Leave everything else... The ranger is an awesome truck... Not much has to be done to it!

Maybe make the engine bay adaptable to any size motor.. Say if you had the 2.3L and you want the 4.0L the mounts would be the same, just drop it in and put a tranny on it.. That would be cool... Same goes if they made a diesel option and a V8 option.. Make those universal!!!
