How can this be done?? My truck is stick and my parking brake is shot and i really need it, my foot brake assembly is seized in the cab and my cables are cut under neath the cab, so everything is getting replaced BUT im wondering if i could switch it over to a hand e-brake. Say i get the assembly for it and either mount it between the seat and console or between the seat and door but closer to the seat. I think it would be better between the seat and console that way i dont hit it on my way out, but that will require some modifying to the console so it will fit in there. What do you guys think....

 

I think Wayne (Graniteguy) has a mustang console with the working hand ebrake.. maybe he'll chime in

 

I am going to do the same thing. go to a junk yard and look for a Toyota set up. they have that hand lever you pull. or coarse I need the cable and whole works seeing as I removed every bit of my e-brake and driving a stick with out e-brake sucks donkey *****.

 

i sure hope so...lol you just got my spirits up lol that would be an awesome and very very usefull mod to my truck. i couldnt tell you how many times i needed to use my ebrake but couldnt and i would have to park somewhere where its close to level ground..

 

I only got as far as bolting a mustang hand brake to my center hump. past that, routing the cables shouldn't be a problem.

I stumbled onto something that made me hold off on it. I test drove a lincoln mkx which is basically the new ford edge. The foor brake will release if you press your foot down a second time. Press your foot once to lock the brake, press it again to release it. Thats pretty cool imo. If I could put that in my truck that takes care of what i wanted the handbrake for.

 

What parts do i need and off what stang?

 

Any floor mounted hand brake should work. A stang, a saturn, a honda, I used the stang because I used the center console and the brake fit into the center console. If you want to buy something new, I would look at an air cooled vw site. VW stuff is generally very inexpensive, it's part of their culture if you will.

What I was gonna do is mount some eyebolts to the underside of the truck to guide the cable and clamp it to the existing cable. I never did it, but it should work.

I think for my application the pull out style Toyota hand brake would work better rather then the pull up lever style. who knows maybe i can mount a pull up lever style easier but I'll have to look and see. I'll post pics of my finding and mounthing method.

 

if you can find any jeep cherokee it would be the best cuz its more compact.

but its gotta be stick and have the same hole location for the shifter and match up to the dash....

 

ahhh...watch your shifter alignment...we have a lot longer throw than a mustang. you might need to do a lil triming.

 

the shifter- at least my hurst- slid right into the mustang boot. With a Hurst we have the advantage of screwing off the ball so that made it easy.

 

like redranger said how much room is there for shifting?? do you hit into the console? jus cuz like he said our throw is a bit longer than a stang......from the pictures ive seen on the net it should just be fine..http://www.mustangforums.com/timelin...g-interior.jpg

 

im pretty sure that the through is b/c i drive stangs and it is...it will be somethin to watch out for. its fixable.

 

well for me im not looking for a console at all just the lever and cable and I'll bolt it up to my cage some how.

as you can see the foot e-brake was right where I have my A-pillar tube and it was removed. but im thinking about mounting a pull style lever to that tube insted or something of the sort.
