289 in a Ranger
I know that anything can be made to fit but is it feasible to put a 289 in to a 98 Ranger? I'm looking to do something different and I know old school engine building. The new computerized engines throw me. I'm use to installing headers and a different cam and then advancing the timing some. Now you put a different chip in and get a tuner. I went to an auto parts store the other day looking for some valve lapping compound and the kids behind the counter didn't even know what lapping the valves meant. Which is best, old school or new?

I would think all of the EFI Stuff from a 5.0L would bolt on the 289W Engine.
Only problem but not a big one would be to get a cam that would work on the 289EFI vs the 5.0L EFI.
Cam Lobe separation is different in a Carb’d engine vs EFI, firing order is different, also Roller Cam Block, you would need the 5.0 distributor but it should work out great.
Might be easier in the long run an a better 289 would be to take a 5.0L Block and put a 289 Crank/rods and Pistons in it. Was thinking of this myself but stopped thinking when my 5.0L became available.
Great idea, good luck,

Ummm............
I'm with ya on the Ol' School stuff, but mine are "bastards", but its what I'm familiar with.
BOMK.......the 289s will windup better than a 5.0, turn more RPMs without blowin stuff out the bottom.
If ya got the 289, then use it! If not, then I'd go for the cubes to an early 351 or even a 360.........just to be different!
Keep us post with info & pics................
