Yea it has been done before, I cant remember who did it. It would be easier with the one that has one big pocket right there but can be done with the others with two pockets as well.

I'm actually in the process of doing just that right now. I'm not 100% sure of this, but I doubt that I'm going to need to do any cutting. That pocket right there is bolted into the console from the back side.
I'll have to get some pictures up of my progress, I'm currently recovering the armrest, and painting the console.

Pinecone did it in his old ranger. I'm not sure what he had to do but I'm sure he'll chime in soon.

there is a tube underneathe that is the rear vent on the console, you have to cut a chunk out of that for the shifter to clear and remove the pocket from the front and your done

You could check on eBay or at your local dealership. I would check eBay first, you should be able to find one cheaper on there. Good Luck!

The part numbers for the FX4 shifter are floating around here somewhere.

If you do adapt the console for a stick, please document it well! I know several people have done this before, but nobody's done a good job of taking pictures etc etc so it's hard to tell others how to do it!

I really love the look of bucket seats with the console in there. I should check my local salvage yards, and see if they have anything.

FX4 arm: 1L5Z7210BC, Shift ball: 1L5Z7213AA.

Best prices were from Bob Utter Ford 866-941-3673(talk to Sam). The shift boot is JC Whitney part number 47ZX5929P

it might be a little while before i do this mod due to the fact that i'm getting married in July and i have to be tight on money and with the price of gas it's kinda hard to do that. i will be sure to get good pics of before, during, and after for everyone to see. my camera's a 4-megapixel and all my pics were takin by it.

I wouldnt mind doing this, I'd just like to see the console with the fx4 shifter first...its either that or the bench seat mod w/ just the fx4/custom console

the fx4 shift arm has been superceded with a new part number starting with a 6. I found this out when I put my order in with Ford for the ****, lever, and boot, and it came back with the new number for the lever, with a price kick on it. Ford does that sometimes.

I can get the 3 piece kit for $300 shipped. I know its steep, but thats ford parts for ya.
