me and my brother one day thought off an idea that might work as a ram air intake.. ive read forums on here about putting computer fans as part off the box around a air filter.. well since that idea doesnt really work, we thought of putting a fan/fans inside the air intake housing/pipe..behind the air filter, on the inside of the intake... which with a K&N high flow air filter and running the fans off 12v you should create a vacuum which on the reverse side should create pressure if made right, which in turn would be a ram air intake.. correct?? and since its the fans creating the pressure you could have instant extra horsepower by the flip of a switch... please correct me if im wrong and this wont work..

 

I think it would work kinda... but it think that you would have to have the fan change speeds at different rpms.. unless you can create enough pressure that can provide enough air at max rpm. Try it and see what happens..

the engine is sucking a heck of a lot more than a fan could push. The presence of a fan would be an obstruction to the air flow.

 

i dont think it would work either the engine already creates a vacum you would have to get your fans to spin faster than the air already coming inand the fans wont create a bigger vacume

 

My theory is the same as Wayne's.... It will just take away from the performance. Think about the turbines inside a supercharger, they spin at 15,20,30,000 rpm and cover the whole intake. They also compress that air and force feed it into the engine. A fan in the intake will not do that. If it was that easy, it would have been done 40 years ago...

its not going to work. that THEORY is the same of the infamous electric supercharger found on ebay. my buddy put it in his s-10 and it only made his truck run like crap. at idle the truck would stall bc too much air and not enough fuel. and when in motion the truck sounded like it had seizures

 

Dude, a 20 inch fan used to speed the curing of a floor(varnish on a floor) pushes like what...600 CFM? And I think our engine sucks in something like 900+ CFM. No little fan would ever work. unless its called a turbo or supercharger.

 

dont know if it worked or not but a guy told me that he took a plain air tank filled it with air and ran a hose, idk the size, to his intake man. said it had a ball valve for fast open and close. and when he was "runnin" someone he would open it and get 20-30 hp boost, i never saw it, dont know if it works, just saying what he told me /open for bashing/

 

thats kinda interesting because an air tank could push a crapload of air out, very quickly. but i am pretty damn sure 20-30 psi would instantly blow up your engine.

What you describe is impractical with stored air unless you seal the whole system. Any boost would exit out the filter. It is possible and the big boys have reserched it. It would have to be direct injection. The compressed air is piped directly into the cylinders, not through the air tintake system.

you know those electric superchargers you guys were talking about? my dad actually had a car once that came stock from the factory with those. he said it worked better without them than with. haha

 

It won't work. Plus the fan could break and send tiny pieces of debris into your engine. Not a good idea.
