gonna be mad money, get the motor with its own trans already mated and the full harness for both, be very computer savy, that motor is gonna be pissed off that it got takin from its home so be prepared to trouble shoot and not have a running car even after you get it buttoned up and you think your done. all the fuel system from the tank forwards will have to be redone so it can handle efi.
if you do it and do it right it should be way more reliable and trouble free then a rebuilt 360 or 440 on carb

i think a 6.1 is a 383 is it not? anyway it would be super cool to see/ drive.
i do like the nights in the garage rejetting holley carbs and debating mechanical vs vacume secondaries e.ct.
do it!! will cost alot of bucks but will be a show stoopper as long as complete attentin to detail is given to the interface between new and old.
i would build a 383 or 440 myself just because i like old school tools--- dwell meters rock!!!--lol
anyway have fun and let us know.

On an opposite note I thought it would be cool if some one (with ALOT of cash) bought one of the new Camaros and one of those all aluminum 427 big block ZL-1 engines from 1969 and made a super Big Block 2010 Camaro.
The engines alone are $20,000 a piece. They found the tooling in 2007 and produced another 427 of them as tribute. You can get them from Chevy performance in the big block section. They are called Anniversary Edition 427. They were rated at 430hp but really pushed out 550hp! And they weighted the same as the 302 that was in the Z/28! Apparently they are the same engines from the Stingray Corvette except they are all aluminum. That pretty much makes them the rarest and most famous engine ever produced.
A big block 2010 would be SOOOO cool.

Late opinion… but if you are going for a custom look, sleek and low then the newer engine combo will work… (for me) (sort of a ZZ Top Machine) but if you are building a period piece then stick to an engine that was for the years around the year of your vehicle.
IMHO, because if it works for you then do it, you are the only one you have to please !
Also, how about a pic or two of the Fury...
