You don't think it will. You don't know what the eff's underneath you....the only way you could tell is if you actually sample the soil. I may not collapse, but it has the potential to.

Well, where the fire is and isn't burning is *fairly* well documented, and Big Daddy Griggs *should* have equipment on hand to track whats going on where we are, but I don't figure we'll be off-roading in the IMMEDIATE vicinity of the fire anyway.

That doesnt mean you wont win the lottery either.... I'll take my chances.
I'm hundreds of times more likely to die driving to work everyday....

It takes alot more than the weight of a few trucks to cause a mine subsidance. As a matter of fact, nothing on the surface causes a mine subsidance. It just happens. The odds of it happening to you in Schuylkill Co. are roughly the same no matter where you are or what you are doing.

A sinkhole could open up anywhere in florida at any given time, im sure its the same chances as in centralia! And these sinkholes pop up once in a while!

I'll also have a fairly nice, brand new tow strap w/ me. I bought it as running gear for the new truck, it is yet unused. I forget the specs on the strap, but it should be enough for our needs. .. My backup plan is a come-a-long. I hope ya'll leave me alone w/ need to fall back on it!

I'd think that a meet like this would be THE optimum time to off-road. Obviously leaving pavement w/ an open diff-ed 4x2 on pure street rubber is probably not prudent. But if you've got some all-terrains, I say go for it. At the very least you'll have LOTS of help getting out. .. Then again I'm a noobie to this Centralia game, so go w/ what those that have been there say.

And Intense, I am an engineering graduate, and I'm all for going out there. .. Then again I'll pay attention to what John and co say and TRY to avoid doing stomething stupid!

Yup, I'm not trying to discourage anyone from off-roading, but simply put, my 2x4, open diff on street-bias tires is NOT up to the task of anything past trail riding. I may bring out my dad in his 4x4 98 Off-Road, tho.
