Well, since my edge bumper is taking a beating on the paint, may think of going to a chrome xlt bumper.

Isn't the XLT and Edge upper bumpers identical, except that XLT's are chrome and edge's are painted? It's the XL ones with are a different design, correct?

 

the edge bump is color matched, the xlt is black plastic, the top part (not the front) is the chrome part, not the whole bumper.. and yes its the xl that is a different design. just look for the round fog light holes, thats basically it.

 

its not hte xl xlt thing, its 4wd vs 2wd, 4wd and edge upper valences are the same except the chrome thing. 2wd xlt's like mine arent rounded off the go all the way to the wheel well.

 

Karpe is correct...the 4wd and the Edge have the same upper part of the bumper. The main difference is the Edge is color-matched, and the 4wd is Chrome.

 

edge bumpers have the tabs on the side. painted bumper

xlt has the tabs as well but chrome bumper

4x4 is same as xlt

xl doesnt have the tabs on the side

WRONG on the XLT
that XLT pic is wrong... that is an xlt with an FX4 and an edge lower!!!
A true XLT bumper is like the XL bumper. it wraps all the way around unlike the edge/fx4 that doesn't go all the way around. XL vs XLT is diffrent in that the XL has a plain upper bumper and the XLT is chrome.

i should know i have an XLT and now have an Edge bumper/valence

duh.. he was just pointing out the styles.. and im perty sure everyone knows that its the xlt with a edge bottom, he was only really talking about the uppers

 

but my point is that, that is not an xlt with an edge bottom. that is an xlt with a FX4 top(bumper) and edge bottom(valence). by the way you wrote your statement you didn't even notice it

they aren't the same. an XLT top is like the XL, it goes all the way around. the Fx4 is like the edge, but it is chromed

You are bothe right! XLT 4x2's have the chrome bumper without the tabs and XLT 4x4 have the chroem bumpers with the tab!

Unless the xlt is a 4x4... I have the xlt and it doesnt go all the way around like yours. but mine is a 4x4 so I think that makes a diff like Karpe said.

John, you are correct. since i have a 4x2 i think of XLT's as the coil suspension. The 4x4 XLT's do have the same uppers as the FX4 along with having the torsion bar suspension

also the pic in the original post that we where debating is of an XLT 4x2, another reason that i was saying that it was not the original bumper.

XL- Full wrap around grey bumper, grey valence
XLT(4x2)- Full wrap around chrome bumper, grey valence
XLT(4x4)- Chrome bumper, grey valence with tabs
Edge- painted bumper, painted valence with tabs
FX4- Chrome bumper, grey valence with tabs (same as XLT 4x4)

OOPS i thought me was just meaning as a direct replacement keeping his factory fog lights.. but i guess ya'll spelled it out for him

 

And you can thank ford for making this so confusing. Another wrench into this monkey works are the Value ranger XLT 4x4's They have the 2WD chrome bumper without the tabs and no fog lights even thought they are XLT's. They didn't make those in 01 when I bought mine, but a buddy bought one in 03 (good deal actually) $12,000 for a 4x4 with a 4.0 Auto with a mp3 player. It was a step above a work truck. a two door with no sliding windows or fender flares, but it had the FX4's 5 spoke wheels. Not a bad deal for the money. also had a vinyl floor too.

yea.. now that i know we were trying to say the difference between 2wd and 4x4 in the bumpers. its a bit more clear., i was just confused cause i figured most people knew that the 2wd and 4x4 are different. so im sorry jacob lol

yea the value 4x4 would be sweet to get if you just needed a winter vehicle cause you have a nice car.. or like jacob said, making a cheap new offroad machine

01-current:

XL, XLT 2wd Are the same upper & lower bumper, XL is upper is painted black/dark grey, XLT is chrome, both lowers are the same grey/black plastic stuff. These bumpers are the ones without the "tab"...so it goes strait into the wheel well.

All Edges, FX4s, XLT 4x4 have the same upper & lower, Edges are body color upper & smoothed out lower bumper , XLTs & Fx4s are chrome upper and black/grey lowers. These bumpers are the ones with the "tab."
