ATF

Hey guys, I've got a question for you all.

I'm looking to buy around 10 quarts of Mercon V for a transmission fluid 'flush', poor man's version. Problem is, I can't find the bulk jugs of ATF, like I can with engine oil.

Reason I want the jugs is because I want to save her some money. However, it's becoming harder to find plain old Mercon V. I can only find these dex/merc multivehicle mixes, like this.

https://www.walmart.com/ip/Valvoline...allon/15125768

I'm a bit hesitant to use this, when the service manual for the vehicle specifically calls for Mercon V. It's an 00 Taurus if anyone is wondering, although I believe this applies to most other Ford products out there.

Would using this be O.K. or should I just bite the bullet and get ten of the smaller quart bottles? I don't want to replace this tranny down the road, and the last thing I want to do is 'brick' her only car. See my quandary? lol.

I would think this would work fine, after all it has to conform to certain specifications, and this product specifically is what I would wind up with. Valvoline after all isn't a no-name brand.

Thoughts?

No. If it calls for Mercon V, use Mercon V. Don't be cheap ad use the Dex/Merc garbage. You might save some money, but cost a full rebuild down the road. The Taurus already has a POS transmission. The engineers made Mercon V for a reason.

Alright, I'll keep hunting. If that's the way it is, I've got no problem spending the extra money.

Try Ford XT-5-5QM it is a 5 quart jug

Also XT-5-6GM but a 6 gallon "bag in a box", lol, overkill

Anyplace that sells motorcraft ATF can bring it in for you
