Mobil 1 Oil

Hey guys, Ive been hearing from numerous people that Mobil 1 oil is the best on the market. Is this a fact? Ive been debating on switching from Penzoil to Mobil 1. Ive seen that Mobil 1 is mostly Synthetic. My 3.0L just broke 100, 000 miles. The engine is in great shape and no leaks. Would it be wise to switch to a syntheitc blend? Thanks.

I like AmsOil better. I used to run mobile in everything. I started having problems with oil consumption a couple of years ago in the envoy I had with 30-40,000 miles on it. I switched to AmsOil and never had a problem since in any of my trucks.

Pennzoil is a great oil, if you are looking to upgrade to synthetic I would suggest Pennzoil platinum. (if you are satisfied with regular pennzoil) Mobil 1 does not impress me. Like the pennzoil, mobil, castrol, valvoline, and quaker state are not "true" synthetics. They are group III based oils. Don't get me wrong, they are all very good and anyone of them will be fine in your ranger, but royal purple, redline, amsoil, schaffers (I think there is one more) are the only TRUE synthetics on the market. These oils are classified in groups IV and V.

As Bow_Extreme said, I personally like amsoil. I have run it over a millions miles (several vehicles) and it has performed flawlessly. Some will disagree with me, but to each his own. It really all boils down to personal preference...

Its basically a matter of opinion/what works best with you for your truck. I personally am a Mobil 1 fully synthetic user (maybe because I get it for free) and I have never had any problems with it.

Persona; preference - I run Mobil1 in everything.
Amsoil and Royal Purple are some favorites too.

I too have started using amsoil. I run it in my front and rear diff, transfer case engine, and trans. There was a independent test done with several different oils and amsoil came out on top. Mobile 1 was actually second. You can read all about the test at http://www.amsoil.com/lit/g1971.pdf The cost of AmsOil is comparable to Mobil 1 and it's a better product.

Dont throw your money away, Use Walmart super tech syntheitc, $12 for 5qts.

There is really no difference between Castrol, Amsoil, Mobil, Valvoline, Pennzoil or SuperTech syn. If the product is an API SM/GF-4 rated Motor Oil its mostly the same.

Supertech has the same test rating as M1. Im not sure about the extended life m1 or other m1 products.

Bullsh*t!

Seriously? You mean to tell me that group III, IV, and V oils are all the same?

I would like to see some proof to back up your ridiculous statement.
