Odd automatic trans fluid readings

So I just bought this truck, and I looked at the trans fluid and it was low, still on the dipstick but between the two holes at the end.

So I got some fluid and added less than a quart - about 2/3 quart. Ran it home from the parts store, checked it idle, running, and it was way above the crosshatched line. This morning, cold, not running, it's still in the same place.

I know its bad to be overfull but I didn't think 2/3 of a quart would make that much of a difference.

The only think I can think is that when I originally checked it wasnt low, maybe hadn't gotten hot enough yet?

Whats the easiest way to get a little back out?

Much thanks!

That little bit, I wouldn't worry about

Welcome to the forum

Should also include year and engine with questions

2001 3.0l

If it concerns you then easiest way to drain a little out is to loosen/remove a trans cooler line on radiator, lower line on a 3.0l radiator, gravity will bleed out 1/2 quart to 1 quart
Do NOT start the engine, lol

But as 2011Supercab said less than a quart over won't hurt anything

Thank you, and thanks for the reply. I will say that the transmission seems to be running / shifting a little better than it was before, so I think maybe it was indeed low in the first place.
But thanks for the replies, and thanks for the welcome!

Assuming a 4r\5r series Transmission,
relatively easy to HandPump ATF from Trans DipStickTube; do this every 6mths on my 2001 5r55e,
3/4qt of old ATF from Trans & 1/4qt from SteeringReservoir, refresh\replace with a new quart of MerconV;
old quart of ATF goes into recyle container along with 5qts of oil from routine Engin Oil+Filter change.
Keep this ATF dedicated HandPump in a sealed large ZipLock bag until next use.
Similar to this pump; replace red tubing with clear tubing to see flow.
