Which oil to use?

I just bought a used 2003 Ranger. it only has 62K miles I've been told not to use synthetic oil but rather a high milage oil. But the car has low mileage despite its age. So regular? Synthetic? Synthetic blend?

Thanks

I bought my 2003 Ranger with 42,000 miles and ran Motorcraft synthetic blend for the first 6 or 8 oil changes. By the time I reached 60,000 miles, I switched to Mobil 1 Full Synthetic. That was over ten years ago, and I now have 215,000 miles on the truck. Still drive it almost every day.

Moral of the story, whoever told you not to use full-synthetic has no clue what they're talking about.

Why did you start with blend and then switch? Why didn't you start with full synthetic?

Also what is considered high mileage? Over 100K?

Manual just says use 5w-30 no mention of regular, synthetic or blend

The synthetic blend came from my personal desire to only use products from Ford, and Motorcaft Synthetic Blend was all that was available in stores locally.

I then managed to find a decent amount of people talking positive of Mobil 1 Full Synthetic here on the forum and I decided to make the switch. Everybody seemed to be running Mobil 1 back around 2012 or so here.

I do run the high mileage 5W30 now, but definitely didn't run it until around 150k or so. From 60K to 150K I just ran the regular Mobil 1 Full Synthetic.

High Mileage in this day and age is 100k+. But with how Rangers tend to go when you take care of them, 200k is more likely high mileage.

I bought my 99 Ranger, 4.0, manual, in 2001 with 26,000 miles. I ran Mobil 1 in it for years. I have 202,000 on it now. The only I reason Ive stopped using Mobil 1 is I have a slight oil pan gasket leak that needs to be fixed. Mobil 1 is too expensive to use with any type of leak. Im running a synthetic blend right now. IMO, just choose a good oil, pair it with a good filter, Motorcraft for me, and change it at regular intervals, mine was 5000 with Mobil 1.

Where are you buying it? If it's at the auto parts store, they're ripping you off. It's usually 29.99 for a jug at Walmart and most farm supply stores.

I don't buy oil at any auto parts store. I buy all my oil from Wally World, filters as well.
