Royal Purple?

Who uses it?

I am going to be filling my truck up with it tomorrow along with the Royal ICE additive in my coolant.. Is there any noticable difference from Royal Purple to say quakerstate?

Is it worth the $9 a bottle i just paid lol?

I have read everywhere that Royal Purple is the best oil you can get, so i figured with the new heads and gaskets i would give my truck the best lol.

Fx4wannabe01 11-09-2009 03:20 PM

I've always ran Royal Purple with 5k intervals since buying the truck at 30k. Put 110 on the original engine and pulled the valve covers to see a prestine engine with no gunk.

Can't say anything about the radiator additive, though I considered it when tossing in this new engine.

Back to RP engine oil...holy balls the price has been rising and rising the past couple of years. Used to be $5 a quart, and I just paid $8 a quart the other day. Same with my K&N oil filter...used to be $9-10, now it's $15. WTF.

04blackedge 11-09-2009 03:20 PM

Everything I've read on different oil analysis sites say no its not worth it. Its one of those things people think that since it costs more its better. Sure its high quality but is it any better than say Mobile 1, no.

Fx4wannabe01 11-09-2009 03:25 PM

Mobil 1 made my timing chains louder, same with Jeweler54's old truck. IDK if that means anything, but...yeah.

DSFD506 11-09-2009 03:26 PM

I've ran both Mobil 1 and RP and honestly didn't see much of a difference. Now this last time I was a DA that forgot when I changed my oil and actually went 10k between my last oil change. The RP wasn't as dark as my Mobil 1 with 5k miles. The price is one reason I'm glad I work part time at Advance so I get the discount.

04blackedge 11-09-2009 03:31 PM

Yeah I should have said YMMV. I was just using Mobil 1 as a example, i don't remember all of them. I think Rotella? might have been another top one too with Amsoil. If it works for you and you don't mind spending the extra money though keep on using it.

SparkYZ 11-12-2009 09:15 PM

Aside from lubricating moving parts in an engine, oil's other job is to keep contaminants and dirt in suspension.
When oil gets dirty, it gets dark. Darker it is, more crap it's keeping in suspension.

Mobil 1 being dirtier than the RP, means one of two things:
1. You had more contaminants and dirt at that time or
2. The RP doesnt keep the dirt in it as well.

ranger4.0 11-12-2009 09:21 PM

royal purple has more detergents and engine cleaning additives. or so i have always heard. only difference beside color

camodown 11-12-2009 09:27 PM

overrated

99ranger4x4 11-12-2009 09:29 PM

apparently RP is better than Mobile 1.. no idea who did what study but thats what the service manager at work said.. I get Royal Purple at 5.50/qt so its not too bad.

$33 for 6 qts in the Chevy. I can live with that.

I saw it at orilleys for like 8.99/qt haha

whippersnapper02 11-12-2009 09:35 PM

I haven't used it but I know people that have and still do and they like it. I personally use Amsoil in my quad and truck and both vehicles like it just fine. I get no first startup timing chain rattle after an oil change while using Amsoil like I did using Castrol.

KLC 11-12-2009 09:36 PM

I like RP myself. I have switched almost everything over to RP.

99ranger4x4 11-12-2009 09:37 PM

11.99/qt for 75w-90 though :/

I was thinking about putting it in the tranny at 100k, but 16qts of RP ATF can't be cheap.

i work at Autozone so i get a discount, so its not too bad for me. all i use it RP or Castrol Syntec

ES894x4 11-13-2009 12:22 AM

is it good yes, is it worth 9$ a quart no, most honda tuners i know that use rp change it at 2500 mile intervals. mobil 1 extended performance has more of the additives they took out of mobil 1 a while back. if you want a premium synthetic and were in the mood to spend money like that you need get the German Castrol Syntec, do not get the Amercian Syntec at your local auto store b.c. that stuffs barely better then dino oil.

God,Country,FORD 11-13-2009 03:29 AM

^ off base one quart of Sh!tty 10W30 NORMAL oil is 13 euros thats about 17 bucks for 1 QUART.. Synthetic is in the 20's for 1 quart.. I think i will pass lol
