Is there anyone using Royal Purple Synchromax 1 in a 5 speed
manual transmission Ford Ranger or B4000 not Older than 2009
that requires MERCON V ?

If so can you give me your comments please ?

I still got 5 years Warranty left. The Owner Manual says to use AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID MERCON V

I would like to use ROYAL PURPLE in the Future. Which one do you recommand in ROYAL PURPLE

SYNCHROMAX 1 or MAX ATF Looking in different Forums it seems like everyone has

Royal Purple Synchromax is not a standalone Mercon V fluid and does not have identical chemistry to the fluid specified by the OEM. It does, however, meet or exceed the performance requirements of the transmission in your vehicle. If your primary concern is strict warranty compliance, it would be best if you used the factory fluid, and keep your receipts. If you are looking for a better product and you are most concerned with performance and protection, Royal Purple Synchromax (Part # 01512 quart bottle) would be an excellent choice. Your transmission takes 2.75 quarts of oil.

Has anyone using it noticed any difference?

I just did switch over the week end and put ROYAL PURPLE SYNCHROMAX
in my 5 Speed Manual Transmission Mazda B4000 4X4 4.0 L engine 2009.
Going into First or Reverse from neutral Good improvement. From Fisrt to Second Small improvement. From Second to Third Smal Improvement. From Third to Fourth Good Improvement and from Fourth to Fifth Good improvement.
Overall I feel better knowing it is Synthetic for Winter and wearness. We'll see...

I switched mine over a few months ago and did notice a difference but it looked like the last time the fluid was changed was when the truck was built.

I'm using RP Syncromax for nearly 25k miles and plan on switching it out soon. Shifting is starting to get notchy again, granted the truck has 161k miles on it. Next time around I think I'll use Redline MTL, heard a lot of good things about it.

For those of you who have tried the Royal Purple Syncromax, is it similar in viscosity to ATF or more like a gear lube? I read that thicker stuff won’t splash up to some sensitive bearing and trash the trans.
I’m thinking of trying it in my ’98 2.5 5-Speed.

I put in Mercon V when I bought it and it shifts like what I assume is normal, but there is always that hesitation between gears and worst going from neutral to first at a stop light. “Light turns green, push in clutch and wait for the stupid trans to go into first” If I just shove it into first I’m afraid I’ll cause excessive wear or screw something up.

Are there any additives that help the “shift feel”?

Anyone try Amsoil Synthetic Manual Synchromesh Transmission Fluid (MTF)?

I filled it with RP synchromax over the weekend, definitely an improvement over the Mercon V. Worth the $15 / Qt.

What about older rangers? Ive got an 88 and those manual trannys use 80-90w gear lube, would RPs gear lube be good???? And what about autos? I read the label on there ATF and its said use in everything but fords.....

I changed the fluid in my 2000 3.0 auto at 80,000 with Valvoline synthetic merc V and it seems to be good stuff and I think ill stick with it in my next flush. Its shifting hard from first to second right now and I was told the bands need adjusting so I guess ill have the dealer do that one.

Any suggestions on other Auto Merc V brands?????

just changed the tranny fluid in my manual and i have to say im not impressed. it was noticably worse, meaning shifting into some gears are hard now that werent with the stock mercon. i filled to the top and even did a flush. is it supposed to take a while to cycle through or what?

yes i used RP synchro max. its odd sometimes it feels better than the merc, and opther times it shifts harder. im gonna give it a few days then try the penzoil synchromesh?

I just run Valvoline Mecron V High Mileage Synthetic ATF.

And of course plug the 3 overflow holes on M5OD-R1 with freeze plugs.

After 2 weeks I did not like ROYAL PURPLE SYNCROMAX so I swiched to MOBIL SUPER Multi-Vehicle ATF Synthetic Blend which is approved
MERCON V. I have been running it for a month and I really like it now...

I like the Valvoline idea but what’s this with the Freeze Plugs ?

Whats best for gear lube for rear and front axle ,anybody using RP for that

I just purchased my 94 Ranger and did not get the owners manual for the truck. The manual trans. has been leaking for quite some time and the lube was about a litre low. I put 80/90 Wt. gear oil in but now after reading this thread I'm thinking maybe should have put ATF does anyone know what a 94 was supposed to use?
