Then how come my truck had improved ground clearance when I added taller tires?

OEM is not always the way to go.
But try it out, maybe it is one of those gimmicks that actually work?

I would skip on that and use STP oil treatment

I have seen engines with both and the STP was the clear winner. Slick 50 just coats everything black and it's nasty if you ever do engine work on that engine

Slick 50 has TEFLON ( (TPFE) ) in it and if you heat it up in a glass vial you can actually see the Teflon SEPARATE into SOLIDS!!!!! :bigeyes2:

I think pouring slick 50 in your engine is like pouring sand in your engine, just my opinion.

""Slick 50 -- lost lawsuit to FTC (false advertising)

Zmax -- settled out of court

Prolube-- busted by CR as useless, but not prohibited by FTC as yet ""

Some good articles about oil additives on the net - general concensus seems to be that teflon, or zinc, or other stuff generally found in them aren't so good for your engine.

Save your money.

Best way to keep your engine healthy is probably with regular maintenance; especially short interval (at least to manufacturer's spec) oil and filter changes.

Clean fluids are your engine's lifeline.

^x2 Just change the fluids regularly and everything will be fine. I like to use Lucas Oil fuel injector cleaner on my truck every once in a while though, but its a bit older too.

Seems like Quaker State high-mileage oils contain "Slick 50" in the oil.

Only time I ever used Slick 50 was in my '89 Ranger on an oil change where the old filter gasket was stuck to the engine, so I dumped the Slick 50 and new oil down my driveway.

crazymikey 04-14-2009 10:23 AM

My truck has lasted over 250k (415k km)with just regular oil changes. I run 5 or 10w30 in it depending on summer or winter and change my oil every 5000km. I never use any additives in it or anything.

The only things I'll ever use are Lucas or Royal Purple for diffs and transmissions.
