Which synthetic oil do you use?

This is not one of those "which one is better" threads! I am following a thread on another forum, and became curious about the percentage of users for the commonly used synthetic oils. It seems that everyone has a favorite, and a reason why. Please state the engine you are using it in

In the few weeks leading up to my oil change, I start looking at the flyers. And when any name brand goes on sale, thats the one I use.

Last time was Mobil1, right now its that Quaker State Horsepawer stuff you see on TV.

I use Royal Purple in my Ranger. When I switched to Royal Purple for the Motorcraft semi-synthetic that the factory put in there, I noticed a 2mpg increase and could feel the freed up power. I like the stuff and have been using it for a while now.
on the other hand, I use Mobil 1 extended life formula in the wife's hyundai because she never remembers to tell me it needs an oil change, so I have to stop one day and think, "you know, its been a while since I did that....". So, after 5 years of 15,000 mile oil changes and 107,### miles of her driving, the little Hyundai Accent still runs like new and gets 34mpg.
So, I think that primarily the difference is what you like.
Now as far as conventional oil goes, I stay away from Quaker State and Penzoil prouducts, because I have experienced both of them leaving parafim (sp?) deposits on the inside of the motor. I like valvoline for conventional.

I use Amsoil everywhere except in my rear locker where synthetic doesn't work properly with the ECTED (and yes, I've tried it, lol).

Bob Ayers notwithstanding, I'm very happy with Amsoil. I do one year (about 20K mile) oil changes and I was VERY happy with the internal condition of my transmission at 90K miles when I took it apart.

I'm sold on synthetics.

How do you know that? 2004 doesn't even have an oil gauge, and the 2003 and older has a dummy gauge. Did you add one?

I run amsoil. If you run Castrol Syntec, the only one I would recommend running is German Castrol...

I run Royal Purple 10w30. I got the Royal Purple because even thought it is a bit more expensive, it offers great protection from what I see on TV. I didn't notice any difference from switching to a synthetic but I know in the long run, it will help my engine, especially went I am off-roading and getting stuck!

Amsoil 5W30 in engine. Amsoil 75W80 in the rear diff. Amsoil ATF transmission fluid(which is currently still on the garage shelf) The truck runs much smoother with Amsoil than with Motorcraft.

mobile 1 by the gallon at walmart is a great bargain. Less than $25.

it always been between royal purple and mobile 1. the price as well as the ease of disposal (dump the old oil in the empty gallon container and it is leak free while it sits in the back of the truck for a month waiting to go to a recycler)

I love the 5 quart jugs. no mess with 5 bottles to fill back up with old oil.

I go between mobil 1 and castrol GTX high milage...I just tried royal purple, so far so good, but it's VERY thin and my rear main seal is leaking, so I can definetly see it slowly dripping down the oil pan...not good.

I just bought the castrol high milage the time before this oil change with royal purple, and I liked it, didn't leak and ran great, i just "thought" it lowered my gas milage...but it actually didn't. I just realized how bad of milage I actually am getting with 4.88 and 35, I'm at about 13.7 at best...

So it will be back to castrol high milage, it quiets the motor a lot and makes it idle better. I was stuck on the mobil 1 5w20, but I wanted to try the high milage to see if it will sto pthe leak I have. I can't notice it on the dipstick between oil changes, but I was told to switch it up. Especially with 86k miles...and especially after my mechanic heard the god awful tick I have (the famous 3.0 tick) and the high milage quiets it! ALOT!
