How much are they asking for it?

cheese_man Jun 23, 2010 04:36 PM

i will ask tomorrow
when i pick up my exploder leaf springs

on a side note
that exploder has the weirdest rear axle i have ever seen
it has a large circular disk on the side of casing with a shock absorber mounted to it and the frame

i will post a picture tomorrow

LiftedSplash95 Jun 23, 2010 04:48 PM

do they have a 96 by any chance?

cheese_man Jun 23, 2010 07:24 PM

i will find out tomorrow
2 99`s
1 98`s
1 97

LiftedSplash95 Jun 23, 2010 08:26 PM

3 Attachment(s)
The ex's run 3 shocks on the axle. The third one is in the center and keep the pinion from rocking up.

FWIW, i had my wrecked 98 5.0 delivered for 650.

Attachment 107397
Attachment 107398
Attachment 107399

Hit a curb ripped the front wheel off bent the frame after the control arms. Also busted the rack.

YMMV

Last I remember hearing is in Ontario it is Illegal to put a motor older then your vehicle (ex. 1998 motor in a 1999 truck). I may or maybe not be correct on this one just make sure the government will pass a safety on before you go and do all this work.

cheese_man Jun 23, 2010 08:49 PM

you are correct lazler

switching to a carb engine when it came from the factory with fuel injection
the ministry will confiscate your vehicle

cheese_man Jun 23, 2010 08:51 PM

what kind of heads are gt-40 ( special markings ?? )

if you happen to have a picture post it up

i will print it and check

Blhde Jun 24, 2010 03:28 AM

All 5.0 V8 Explorers got the GT-40P heads. Which are different from the GT-40 head. The P head has the spark plugs coming out at a different angle, which requires special headers.

I'm pretty sure the GT-40 heads only came on 93-95 Cobra's and some crate motors.

GT-40P heads can be ID'd by the "GTP" on the head.

i will take some pictures and post back later

cheese_man Jun 24, 2010 02:24 PM

due to some dead batteries i could not take pictures

but i could not see any raised markings on the heads

but there is a big V with a #8 in between the V
and a raised oil fill neck
if that is any info
( they also have a couple of generation 3 rangers )

96's and very early explorers with 5.0s came with the original gt-40 heads as far as my research as seen online, early 97s have some but the eventually all went to p heads,

I plan on trying to find a similar motor and do plan to stick to efi, i dont know what the misistry will do, as long as the motor is efi and so is my truck it shouldnt matter what year it is, i was told by going to a v8 in the ranger it automatically puts me in a hot rod category for the etest,

Well see i guess, all in time, and go from there

Ry

cheese_man Jun 28, 2010 04:38 AM

you had better double-check on that idea

i am pretty sure that ontario emission laws state that the replacement engine must be the same year or newer
( the same cubic inch size ,,i am not sure about )

FULLSCALE Jun 30, 2010 06:04 PM

Did you ever get a chance to ask what they want for the 5.0 explorer?

cheese_man Jun 30, 2010 07:10 PM

i will stop in and ask
when i down there next week

if anyone is interested ,, you would be better off buying the engine/tranny/trans-case combo
together
he would probably give a better deal that way

FULLSCALE Jun 30, 2010 07:53 PM

I'd definitely be interested if the right project comes up. Since I sold the Mustang I've been looking for a new project!

cheese_man Jul 8, 2010 05:22 AM

just a heads up
i will be stopping in the wrecker today to take pictures
( i forgot to bring my usb/camera cable with me )
so i will post the pictures up here on sunday when i return home
i will take as close-up shots as i can

i will ask mark how much he is asking for the engine/tranny/trans-case combo

cheese_man Jul 8, 2010 09:02 AM

okay. i stopped by the wrecker today

the owner says he will sell the engine / tranny / trans-case for $1000.00 dollars
he will need 1 day to remove the combo for you
( he requires atleast a down payment 1st )

this explorer also has the lift struts attached to the hood hinges
( never seen that before on any explorer )

cheese_man Jul 8, 2010 07:54 PM

i also forgot to mention ,,,
anybody up for explorer factory gray leather seats
the driver side need some TLC
the passenger side is mint

99 explorer

Blhde Jul 9, 2010 03:14 PM

Make sure to get the battery cables and the fuel pump too. The regulator intank has a lower pressure than your ranger.

I would get a new radiator but the donor will work well too.
