Barstool Racer build
after alot of reading, picture looking, and day dreaming, i finally got back to work on my bar stool project. i started it back in 05' with a small section of frame i built. now 4yrs later and a job to fund it im back to work on it.
i don't really have a plan so to speak for anything. well at least on paper.
chassis is made from 1"x1"x 13Ga square tube. most parts are from mini bikes and shifter karts. the engine is a 5hp Briggs & Stratton I/C with a cast iron bore. getting the power to the ground i chose to run a comet torque-a-verter rather then just a centrifugal clutch. just a regular centrifugal clutch will wear fast cause there is one gear ratio. with the TAV it has 2 variable pulleys the will go from a low speed all the way to high speed ratios and even a small over drive ratio.

TAV2 Torq-A-Verter
This is an asymmetrical type torque converter system which means the sheave faces are non-symmetrical. They have different angles. In this case, the movable sheave face is 18" while the stationary sheave face is 2-1/2" for a collective angle of 20-1/2". Here are some reasons for selecting the asymmetrical concept. The Torque-A-Verter can attain an .90:1 or 10% overdrive.
so from what ive read this drivetrain and size motor and gearing will get me wheelie popping low end and 40+ mph speed runs.
nuff yackin here is the build so far. pics suck im using my cell phone for pics.
mocking up my front axle and working on finding my angles for the fork like bars. and you can see the rear 1" live axle and bearing cassets with gussets behind them.
angles found cut and welded. i have the knuckles leaned back about 5*
engine mount plate welded on, and drive sprocket and hub from a racing go kart, also disk brake and hub from a racing go kart.

other side of the engine. i love the old flat heads if i read the code right its a new old stock 1984 engine.
engine bolted on. ad TAV2 cover off.
that's it so far! the rest i have to do is make a aluminum gas tank, brake, throttle, hubs, wheels & tires, steering, stool, get some #35 chain, some gusseting and probably alot of other things. maybe some paint in there too

update now,
still waiting for drive belt, comet is got issues.
got my wheels and tires today. bought a crappy stool from pepboys.....and it dont really work, and kinda tall. so im going to build my own seat.
the outside width in the back is just over 38" wide. just need brakes steering and a fuel tank will be driveable.

I saw bar stool title and was thinking hoss fly as well.
The go kart variety will be faster though. The trans axle in the v8 ones top out around 30 being they are from a garden tractor or something. However they will be able to pull a house.
FYI there is jet version of the hoss fly.

its a peice of 1x1" 1/8" wall square tube sticking out from the frame. same meterial used for the entire chassis. then there is 2 vertical peices there 1" x 3/16" flatstock with the 2 3/8" bolts holding the caliper to that. when i asked at the karting shop they said only one one side of the caliper needed support but i went above and beyond and supported both sides.
once everything cooled down that mounting bracket was sturdy. not even any small amount of deflection. i have faith in my welding/ fab skills.
btw i know pics suck, i don't have a real digital camera......

well i reckon ill do some diggin and bring this one back up.
since ive added steering, had to fab my own stool frame, run the throttle controls, get the gas tank fabbed up, move the brake master cylinder 3 times!! and make a brake pedal, front bumper/ steering support, umm what else.... oh and ride the **** out of it the last few weeks.
heres a pic of most of the progress, haven't taken a new one lately.
oh! and ive wrecked it too! labor day weekend i was goofin around and the throttle return spring broke and i hit a curb at 30mph......stool did endos and i flew and smashed into a brick wall. no pics of damage but it was not good. i got some nasty road rash and a bit of soreness for a week or so.

bent the axle back 2" and up 2" on the left side, bent the steering column over, the temp gas tank i had on there ruptured from the endos, tweaked my hand built seat frame some, and jacked the bearings in the left front hub some.
its all fixed now, it was 2 month's before i repaired it, after i recovered from my hurts and got over feeling bummed out that it was all bent.
