why spend all that money to whipple it?

just buy a 4.0 sohc and get a used tranny...

it would cost less...

If i posted how much i've spent already, you'd understand why i don't care that much about cost anymore lol.

I'd rather whipple my 3.0 because i've had it from the beginning and i know the maintenance thats been done on it instead of a used junkyard motor that might not have been taken care of at all.

And besides, who doesn't like boost?

034x4 09-20-2005 09:06 PM

Haven't really done crap to it the past week or two. Gotta cut ant turn the passenger side knuckle tomorrow, hopefully borrowing a friends MIG to weld the crossmember and shackle brackets onto the frame soon. Too much out of position and close quarter welding to use my Arc. Welder. Once these are done i'll bolt the axle under the truck, get my steering box on and order my steering links. Then brake lines and shocks and bam on to the rear end...Sounds close... I hope it is...

034x4 09-21-2005 09:44 AM

Turned the pass knuckle already today, made the brackets for the shackles. Re-routed my 220 plug so my welder can reach the truck. Getting elliott to weld the crossmember up and the shackle brackets. Hopefully sometime this week. When he does the axle will be bolted under the truck...

Trevelyn1015 09-21-2005 10:29 AM

sweet.

of course, soon you'll have to post what broke and how you are making it stronger!!!! lol

at least, with my luck that is what would happen!

keep up the good work.

i can't wait to see it...

034x4 09-21-2005 12:45 PM

Ya i already have an idea what might go first. But I might address that issue before i put that particular area back together, but i'm not sure if i'm going to just let it ride and see what happens (i will have spare parts for almost everything in the drivetrain when i'm done).

Gearhead61 09-21-2005 05:03 PM

Which part do you think will be the weakest link? And why?

034x4 09-21-2005 05:25 PM

The locking hubs, i bought milemarker hubs because they were 40 bucks cheaper, and well, they are 40 bucks weaker. The knob itself is plastic.

I'm probably going to buy warn premium hubs (all metal, 90$) and use the MM as spares.

i bought warn premiums too but i might just go with drive flanges for the strength. im not really concerned about the gas mileage about being always locked, but im going to run the premiums first to see.

I'd much rather run flanges for the strength but as a DD with a spool, HA!

My axle is bolted onto the truck....

SuperGildo@RRP 10-03-2005 08:27 PM

Alright I just got some horrible news from jey.

It turns out that he never even started the project. All the photos of his truck were photoshopped and the photos of the axle were stolen from pirate4x4.com.

He has been up to something though. He has put on some 14 inch dayton wire rims plated in platinum with some 35 series (lo profile) tires. he took the body lift off and modified his bed with hydralics to compete in the "dancing beds" portion of all his lowrider shows. He has also been learning how to sew dingle berrys onto every seem of fabric in the truck. hes poor from the platimun daytons, so hes been doing it by hand.

He still has the fiberglass fenders though...

Expect his big debut soon...

hehe you got man boobs...

damn dude its gonna be huge!!! I FRIGGIN LOVE IT!!!

BTW what are you doing in the rear??

034x4 10-04-2005 09:26 PM

6-8" springs from alcan, with an exploder 8.8, superiors, detroit, and prolly c-clip eliminator.

EDIT: they are my "pectoral muscles" *****, I work out, they arn't fawkin boobs!

SuperGildo@RRP 10-04-2005 09:26 PM

have you even started on the rear end??

04lvl2 10-04-2005 09:28 PM

Damn thats insane, looks good. When is the projected completion?

034x4 10-04-2005 09:28 PM

I have it completely stripped in my basement garage. I have the gears and install kit. Gotta order the detroit, shafts, and springs after the front end is done. Gonna have it 110% before i start on the rear.

Here is a crappy pic, but at 56 and 1/4" is the fender.

It was about 80* still outside when i took the pics, and i'm next to it for size reference...

034x4 10-04-2005 10:28 PM

It's actually outside, under-neath my deck, because the garage was too small for it with the 35's on there lol.

Trevelyn1015 10-04-2005 10:32 PM

are you going to submit it to be insured, modified like it is?

cuz it would suck to get hit by an uninsured motorist, or have an accident... and be stuck.

034x4 10-04-2005 11:31 PM

I dunno, depends how much more rediculous the payments are...

Holy pinion angle, Batman.

You may want to cut and turn the knuckles on that some (more). Move the perches, etc etc.

Trevelyn1015 10-05-2005 11:36 AM

^ i think that was just when he was showing us where it would sit.

i think that is fixed, now...
