Can that head be decked? Doesn't look like you can, but if you can, I'd suggest you do it. I'd also suggest a four angle valve job, new intake valves (the others look pretty trashed but probably can be grinded w/ the exception of the damaged pair); also have check the guides for ovaling (typically happens in high mile bmw's. Replace all seals and you're good to put it all back together. If you have $$$ to spend, I'd go for a RRFPR, performance chip, injector swap, cam swap (M52 and S52 cams should fit if I remember correctly or you can get re-grinds if you are on a budget) and to top it all off, I'd go with a de silva or conforti performance chip. If you wanna go all the way, lightened fly wheel and performance puck. Maybe I got carried away but if I had the $$$, probably what I'd do.
How's the rings in the bottom end, what about rod bearings and rods.

wondering if 2.8L M52 head would also work (I think so). I think the M3 S52 head would work as well. Heck it might be cheaper to look for a replacement engine. Here is a link for some spare parts: http://www.theeurodepot.com/index.php?id=6
best guys on the east coast. I've used em when I can't reach my hook ups in L.A., San Fran or Washington.
If you live down south, see if a run to Alabama wouldn't put you out and check out Vines. They usually have an abundance of E36 stuff. Good luck to ya!
