PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE BELOW IS A COPY ANBD PASTE FROM MY POST ON ANOTHER FORUM SO SOME OF IT MAY NOT MAKE 100% SENSE
ALL PHOTOS can be seen here http://s239.photobucket.com/albums/f...Truck%20build/ My cousin has ran this ugly pile for 5 years at tough truck events around ohio. I have also been running for 5 years but last season (2010) I didnt have a vehicle to run. Last year he built a Jeep and I got this for next to nothing. Was once an 88 Ranger 2wd 2.3 5 speed http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._7436238_n.jpg After I ran it at 5 events I managed to roll it comming around a corner. It looked like this http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/f...cking10041.jpg I jacked the corner up enough to make my second, and here it was upon unloading from the trailer Attachment 80159 Attachment 80160 Attachment 80161 I stripped it down and pulled the "good parts" Attachment 80162 I picked this up for $100. 85 2.8 auto 4x4. Attachment 80163 I compltely stripped it to the frame, leaving only the axles. Attachment 80164 Attachment 80165 Attachment 80166 Attachment 80167 Attachment 80168 The 2.8 was locked up so Im using the 2.3 and 2wd trans from the rolled ranger with a divorced nissan 720 pickup transfercase. Engine is sitting 4" back Attachment 80169 Attachment 80170 Attachment 80171 Attachment 80172 Fuel tank is inside the tool box. Tanks is mounted down with 3 straps going over it and through 1/4" steel plate with six 1/2" bolts. Toolbox lid is bolted down with four half inch bolts, the factory latches, and a padlock and key. Currently have four half inch bolts going through the 1/4" plate to the frame, putting 4 more in after I go buy them. Total wieght with full tank of fuel is about 300 pounds. I also have the ability to ad sand bags inside the toolbox for more wieght if needed. ( to keep it from nose diving on jumps) Attachment 80173 Cab is sitting 6" back and the front is cut and bobbed. Doors, fenders and hood are skins only, total combo probably wieghts less than 200 pounds. Attachment 80174 Attachment 80175 Attachment 80176 This is a prebent cage from jegs so it doesnt fit quite like I wish it would. Front mount, Im going to be bolting the flat plate to the channel so that I can remove cage and cab. The channel is set down over top of the factory cab mount. Attachment 80177 Rear mounts. There is a solid piece fo 4" 1/4" thick channel that the cage is welded to, the channel will be bolted to these mounts. Thes emounts are 1/2" plate welded tot he stock body mount location with a 1/4" thick gusset welded on. Attachment 80178 Attachment 80179 Rear loop and the halo. Cage is welded to the cab everywhere it come incontact with it. Attachment 80180 one of the a pillar supports Attachment 80181 Rear channel cross member Attachment 80182 rear downward supports Attachment 80183 other a pillar support Attachment 80184 close up of the front frame mount welded to frame Attachment 80185 Bent the door bar JEGS sent so that I have some elbow room Attachment 80186 Attachment 80187 Attachment 80188 Attachment 80189 Attachment 80190 Attachment 80191 Attachment 80192 Attachment 80193 Attachment 80194 Attachment 80195 Today I started on the interior, becuase the radiator is inside the cab I had to box it in to keep from getting myself int rouble should a hose or something blow. I dont have any fancy tools at my place so it snot as good as I could have done at my cousins shop but it will do. Top panel is screwed on so it can be easily removed to allow better access to the radiator and battery. Though the door does still open for quick access. Attachment 80196 Attachment 80197 Attachment 80198 In this pohoto some of the stuff isnt all the way riveted down ( I ran out of rivets) so it looks a bit off but you can tell what im attempting to do atleast. Attachment 80199 Attachment 80200 Seat and harness in Attachment 80201 Front end, still needs a few finishing touches Attachment 80202 holes to let radiator heat out Attachment 80203 Had to get the visor from my old 2wd back on there for sentamental purposes :) Attachment 80204 Attachment 80205 Attachment 80206 I'm not entirely happy with the front end around the grille but there wasnt much else I could do?? Attachment 80207 Attachment 80208 Attachment 80209 Attachment 80210 |
i love tough trucks haha. most prolly wont think its cool but i love it
|
wow i was thinking this was a unique looking build but nothing too fancy but just look what a fresh paint job will do! sure it will get beat up, but man thats a cool ride. looks killer.

My vids are at www.youtube.com/offroadohio1
Check otu the Merc Sable I ran a few years back. Vids of this truck to come later, my first race was Tuesday and I had a ECM relay fail and it cut my run short. I also somehow managed to blow a front ring and pinion on it so now I need a 3.73 d28 pig. There are no high dollar parts on this and I have about $1200 invested so far, it is nothing fancy and doesnt ahve the best looking welds or professional looking fabrication, but the paint hides all that :) |
sable ftw!

Ended up with a 13th place finish. I could have quickened my time but I still need to figure out its capabilities so I can drive it right. |

Managed a 1st in my class tonight. I screwed up again but 90& of everyone did. It thunderstormed and poured right before we started and the tracks mostly clay so it is was SLICK. I didnt make a turn and had to back up but still $125 and a big trophy so I'll take it. I need to get some more wieght on the rear cuase it noses, but even so it lands really smooth.
Me n the fair director with my trpohy. This pic will be in the paper in the next day or so http://a5.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._2363579_n.jpg the vid |
