I'd have to take a few measurements to make sure they fit, but anyone have an opinion on me replacing the steering shaft extension with one of these?

Shaved the nuts, bolts, and the extension, and cut the shims down to about 5/8". Got a little room to spare!

Pics to come later. I'm still up at the shop. We're lining up the transmission to see where the driveshaft will sit (to see if I need a new one).

Good to hear you have it under control.
5/8" shouldn't cause any appreciable problems.
The drive shaft will need to be replaced, I don't believe you can make up 2 to 2.5" but hope it works out.

Can't wait to hear how the 347 is working out.
Great project, great info, great write up.
Thanks

The measurement I took on the driveshaft was with the truck on the lift. When we sat it down, the rear end moved towards the back of the truck, so I actually need a driveshaft that is 3" longer than stock. That should get taken care of this week while I'm gone.

Got the PS hose made today too. The shop that did it is a vendor of ours at work so it was no charge

All in all, things are finally coming together. Minus any wiring issues, we should be in the clear and ready to fire up when I get back from Vegas. Fingers crossed!

Few pics from today...

You can see where we shaved everything to get more room.

It cleared!!!

It's hard to tell exactly how tall the shim is in the picture, but it measured about 5/8"

Noticed this after I got the power steering hose made. This was on both of the compression fittings

Getting so close I'll probably have another dream about the truck tonight lol

Went by the shop tonight to drop off my new JD trac bars and the SCT. Wiring is probably 90% done, there's a few hoses and other connections to hook up, and then we should be ready to fire it up!!! I'm expecting to have a video up by the end of the week. It may just be sitting still, but that 347 is going to be roaring either way

Only major thing holding me back right now is the driveshaft still. Snow and ice literally shut all of north Louisiana down last week, so there was no chance to find one at the JY that will fit. That search will resume Monday, and if there's no luck, I'll have one made. Also hoping to find a GEM module too. I know the truck will run without it, but it won't be optimal.

Pic of the GlowShift gauges lit up. They'll be in the new cluster soon. Oil pressure is obviously not 100psi lol

Engine bay with the few connections left to make, and a closeup of the Screamin' Demons and LiveWires. Yes, the 5.0 plate is still "stock" but once I get everything up and running, I'll take it off so I can make a SolidWorks model of it and have a custom one milled out

They change colors. You can either set them to stay on one color or cycle through all 7 colors. They have a 10 color model as well.

Thanks for all the compliments guys!

I'll probably stick with red and blue for the most part. Only problem is the HVAC panel, cruise control pods, OHC, and the gauge I got from Pedro are all green. May have some more LED mods to do soon to keep everything matching.

Since the PATS is getting eliminated, I got myself a little upgrade. It'll also work well for scaring the crap out of people in a parking lot from a distance lol

Edit: Also wanted to add that the wiring is still progressing, but not yet finished. I promise it's getting close though! Lol
And the driveshaft still has to be found/modified or built. If we can't find one in about a week, I'll just have one made.

The Beast lives!!! Videos are in the dark because the shop is running on a generator right now and I didn't want any background noise drowning us out.

There's also no muffler. We just bolted on a short section of the explorer's exhaust since the flanges matched and we'd have o2 sensors.

Oil and fuel pressure are good, and the water temp is steady at 176*F.

Right now it's only throwing a code for "Shift solenoid A" and the MAF.

On to the videos! These are from the first time we cranked it.

Firing up and at idle:

Having some fun revving it up a little bit:
