Ducati Project
We go through a lot of bikes, and usually some pretty nice/cool ones by the time they're done especially. Figured I might start posting some of them in the project threads area. Maybe someone cares, maybe not. Whatever lol
06 Ducati Monster S2R 1000
Heres how it was when we got it. Been dropped off the stand once or twice, needs parts replaced and a bath bigtime since it was kept outside. Aftermarket slip-on, aftermarket mufflerless midpipe, converted to clip-on hadlebars, headlight lowered, gauges lowered, HID kit in headlight.
Gave it a mild cleaning and took the whole front and exhaust off. Replaced clutch cover with we had from a previous Ducati. Compounded paint and put the reat seat cover back on.
Exhaust painted flat black, titanium can cut in half and given the brushed look.
More to come...

The clearcoat on these CF pieces was pretty crappy looking which is pretty typical, so I used some Duplicolor spray paint clear on them. The one on the left is after wetsanding and polishing (not waxed yet, it's that glossy). 1k grit followed by 2k grit, then Meguiars M105 on a yellow pad followed by M205 on a black pad with my G110v2 machine.

I'm gay for robots
anyway got the front end redone the right way, new clip ons, made a tag bracket, headlight and gauges were lowered a really crappy way so I cut off the brackets and lowered them instead of how it used to be. Painted some stuff and new wiring harness for the headlight. ECU goes out to Texas to get the tune from a $1200 one put on it this week, new chain isn't on yet, and clutch needs to be ordered. The clutch is so bad right now you can't even do a wheelie, it just slips lol. So it needs a few little things still

Nice Duck. I never did like the headlights on those bikes though. All that goes out the window once you hear the twins start up. And does it have one of those annoying clutch covers that make the bike sound like it has a pail of bolts pours into the transmission?
Just saw it. **** I hate those, took one out for a test ride at the Yamaha dealership I was working at, and it annoyed the **** out of me

haha I like the headlight, it goes good with the bike since it's kind of like a modern cafe racer style with the clip ons and stuff. I think its a shame to own a ducati that doesn't have an open clutch cover on it, the sound of the dry clutch is one of the things that makes a Ducati a Ducati to me. I like seeing the clutch as it works and hearing it chatter. I want to take the timing belt covers off really badly too so they're exposed but if a pebble gets kicked up in there that wouldn't be fun since it's an interference engine. When you hear that clutch chatter at a light, you know theres a Ducati around

Yeah I loveeee the colors
Small update,
ECU is coming back from Texas and should be here tomorrow possibly. After putting the tank upside down for a few days so gas wouldnt leak from the lines gas leaked out of the breather and made the clearcoat lift off in about a 6"x6" area. But since the tanks are made out of a type of plastic on the newer ones they expand over time from the ethanol in pump gas and it makes them not fit right. Ducati warrentys this for 5 years and the whole tank is supposedly getting replaced for free by them.
And here is what ~$700 in upgraded clutch parts look like lol

ECU has been reflashed to the Ducati Performance spec. Barnett upgraded clutch, basket, pressure plate, springs installed. Modified belt covers and painted them satin black. New 2" raise clip ons installed and a few little other things. Oh and got some Pilot Sport dual compounds for it for free with like 75% tread.
Got a front fender off a 748/749/916/996/998 on it too. Bought it used on eBay for cheap and it wound up being in kinda crappy shape and didn't look good. So I broke out the trusty dremel again and cut out the triangle shaped holes on both sides to make it look a little better on a naked bike. Also chopped it shorter in back. Sanded it down, primered, and sanded primer. Color comes tomorrow
