UPDATE!!!! ~~~~ 6/27/10

so i took everyones advice and put the intake higher... and also put back my bumper back on.. but there was problem since it would block air flow to the intercooler. my solution... cut some teeth out. :D very happy with the way it came out.. its a little low... but that may be cause i might be getting the front a little higher here shortly.. well see

Exactly. It seems to me that Burning is working on this incrementally. While he got the brunt of it done to get his vehicle up and running (and admittedly sans tune), it looks like he's evolving bits of it. Almost prototyping. :)

Since it's all working, it'll be cool to see it skid plated, or better yet possibly tucked away to make it more robust.

All in due time. Good luck Burn. Make that thing bomber!

I think we all need some serious in depth details on the whole set up. I for one have been thinking about boosting my 3.0 since the day i bought it.

So in other words.. MOAR

props for trying thats for sure! But what kind of pipe is that in the wheel well? black pipe or plastic? Also I'm not sure with only 7lbs of boost or so but usually you are not suppose to run a composite intake anymore. They can balloon and flex on boost

make a custom intake.. it shouldnt be hard if you have fab skills and welding exp. could copy the plastic design? the thing i wanna see is a 3.8 supercoupe swap in a ranger... with the 4.2 from f150 v6turbo....beastly numbers comming out of them these days. ive seen 700hp plus from a v6 stang

ya.. but i dont want to cut up the bed.. i think im just gonna make some sort of sheild for it.. also i could always run one of these..

INJEN Hydro-Shield Pre-Filter | Air Filter Water Shield | Injen Air Intake Systems

Ya.. ran into that problem already.. twice.. it boosts and i hear a loud pop... slowly learning that hose clamps suck.. i'll eventually move over once i hit higher boost again.

Unfortunately yes... hence running it back to 3psi. Its been giving me mixed signals with it running lean or rich.. im gonna get it tuned by the end of this month for sure.. and thank you for your interest.. I'm really interested in it too!!! hahah

SOHC!!! i had an exhaust for it.. but leaf spring is in the way.. and i dont know how to approach it.. so probably wont be putting an exhaust on it anytime soon...

Well i had the boost bug since before my ranger... so i finally pulled the trigger. seriously dont do it with your DD.. im slightly regretting it.. but omg is it worth it to hear it go RAWWWWRRRR... PSTTTTT~~~~

I dont want to talk about it... hhaha.. no its plastic.. 2 inch wide.. ill switch over to metal when i have money/supplier..

as for the composite intake.. ya... been looking for a solution for that.. im thinking that the OHC intake bolts on.. but that may be wrong... and unfortunately the mustangs run the same composite intake.. I think im gonna just CNC and intake for it.. but haven't decided yet.....

well.. having a 4 100k+ CNC machine at your disposal kinda helps too. but if i do that.. i may have to make more than one. :D

and the reason i did the turbo was to get more power and avoid a swap.. with a back up plan of if it breaks a 5.0 or a turbo'd 2.3 is going in. :D

Cool idea on the build but that oiling system makes me wanna look away everytime I see it.

And running boost with no fuel system mods scares me.

Good luck with the build and I will be following.

I bet once the turbo gets ripped off your friends will laugh at you for not having a skid.. Can't you pick the whole thing up? The intake is the cheap part..

lolz.

ive heard 4.0s don't hold boost well. lots of broken engine internals. bent stuff and mostly broken cams. that is mostly for supered 4.0 mustangs though so who knows.

good luck. hope it all works out.

engine. blew. up.

just kidding.. but i pretty much learned that turboing your DD is a terrible idea. that being said.. heres what happened..... school started up again and couplers blew off and i was the highway not able to go 40.... so had to do emergency surgery on the truck at some gas station so i bypassed the turbo.. noticed alot of oil in the intake... the seals on the turbo went.. so decided using a used turbo was a terrible idea... and now the whole kit is off..

however turbo manifold (?) is still in.. I wonder why.. haha.. i think i saw an order for a new turbo... and ya... simply put. not to worried about it..

it was on for a good 5000 miles before I couldn't deal with the constant up keep and with me driving all over town to tutor kids in math it wasn't worth it.... sooooo its off for now.. I think it was more of a test of concept.. glad to know it works.. but ya... now truck is really slow again... i couldn't believe the difference after it came off...

i have a bunch of vids of the BOV going off haha.. i know people are dying to hear.. It was awesome cruising around this city with it cause i would get stopped by some lifted f150, "hey kid, is that turboed?" or when i come out of a chevron and see some kid staring at the intercooler trying to figure out if its supercharged (i got this often).

so overall this project is on hold for a bit. gonna be reinstalling the whole rig with a new turbo in november...
