Aaron's Jeep Restoration
I'll edit it and junk later. A bunch is left to happen, but I'm about to go to Alaska for the summer.
I've always loved jeeps, all my best friends have them. I tried to get one instead of a ranger but it didnt work out. Needless to say, im an impulse buyer and Andy didn't stop me unfortunately!
So far this is the costs of purchases
84 Jeep CJ7 w/ V8 swap and Scout 2 44s front/back.
Jeep cost (Somewhere in 2K range)
Extra front driveshaft: came with
2 brand new front CJ fenders: 160$
Aluminum dash (made by SXOR) $200
New wiring Harness: 170$
Jeep YJ Tub (plus rollbar): $550
New Jeep seats for front and rear: $180
Herculined interior: $100
And the thing that measures the fuel in the tank, i forget the name off the top of my head.
Oh, and I ordered a new full right side panel for it. $360 shipped, that should arrive in
the next few weeks.
This was my end goal. It will never happen unfortunately.
Teardown..
I bought some seats for it from a friend at school
Jeep tires stick out really far without fender flares, it'll look better in my most recent pics
Grinding that was in the end just a waste, haha
Our pile of crap
Eww
Some stuff removed. Steering wheel will go back in. Err steering shaft too.
Might as well cut the body off..
Gosh Andy is sooo strong
New damaged body
Good looking...
GAH!
I didn't take pics of the jeep without the body on. It's all good. Jump ahead to new body mounted.
Here is the side being replaced. Andy has done an awesome job on it so far!
The new body panel for it cost me 360 shipped, for a complete new side.
At least from behind its sexy..!
I will hopefully have lots of improved pics this weekend!

I did some more work today. Tomorrow it goes off to its storage home to get worked on...
herculiner is the shizzle....for rizzle..
Me painting herculiner. All the stuff hangin behind the dash? ALL GONE. It is practically bare behind there. It's awesome I already bet I can take this damn jeep and drive across the atlantic if I had a snorkle big enough.
Well, first layer of herculiner is on...Lets wait for it to dry..
Jesus: "F that! I hate Aaron!"
but my herculiner made the rain it's *****. I still have another layer or two going on
In case you guys wonder why my Ford Ranger doesn't have bumpers. Thanks PA!
I live about 3-400 yards from this.

Those tires are only being used to keep that jeep off the ground. They are rotted/cracked/blah'd to hell. Altho they can go down the road okay I would probably blow them within a month of driving. I believe Andy has the stock tires from his bronco that should match the jeep bolt pattern.. I may take those off his hands so i can get it back to Alaska since we both hate any/all tires that aren't on our rangers or are stock ranger tires.
As to the engine, all of the accessories are sitting on it. So while it looks weird and messy, it is just because of all the crap.
Altho to be honest, if and when I take the jeep to Alaska with me, I can promise you first crashed chevy i find with a slightly older engine...I'll swap it in.

Dude it looks good so far. What shape is the Cj tailgate and hinges. If they are in good shape you can swap the tailgate on to that tJ body. Doc did it to his Jeep and it is sweet. I am kind of sad to see the CJ body go. As far as drive train options. Passenger side drop. I would look for a ford NP435. If it is going to be more of a wheeling rig. The NP435 is a Heavy duty 4 speed that will handle big block power and the first gear is like 6.68 Great for crawling. And Novak has an adaptor to convert it to the Dana 300 T case the CJ came with. The Ford NP435 will bolt up to any Chevy bell housing. Novak also carries a hydraulic clutch kit to convert it form a manual linkage. That is my two cents.

I still have the CJ tailgate and hinges, and I realize that the pickup tailgate is pretty damn awesome, but right now I have much more important stuff to do. So I'd prefer the YJ tailgate at this time. Plus it latches shut and whatnot, which is a good upgrade.
I have a Chevy 350 mounted to a turbo400 with Dana 300, so I'm good on drivetrain right now. That's all high strength parts there luckily.
But, I'm dealing with issues, well, basically anything to do with steering. Front end steering is not cool and I have lincoln locked axles. The welded gears sucks IMO.
Today all Andy and I did was rig a towbar to my jeep. Then I put a hitch on my truck(and by the way, I know i have some weird receiver contraption. Ford lied to me on the paperwork and said i had a full tow hitch. Obviously I didnt but I should've made them attach one or drop the price.)
Andy steering while I tow. We had to learn some quick fundamentals on how it will behave. Oh yah, its mostly taken apart
She dun got towed around nicely

Imagine how wide the jeep is. On a jeep the wheels stick way out the sides, mine go extra so. We had about an inch of room on either side and we managed to back it in.
That's all I have. I hate you jeep!

It is twin sticked! I didn't understand what that meant fully(i thought of it as having the possibility of 2lo with front unlocked) but now i know it means i can seperately control my front and rear axles.
It is a 95 YJ tub, I believe 93 they switched to the "family rollbar". Also, the YJ tub, other than gas tank filler and tailgate, is exactly the same. Oh except for body mounts.
