Im just playin.... I love to see more turbo Rangers. I think this is the most practical engine swap for any early ranger and cant believe more people dont do it.

i've been trying to get the materials together for the swap into my 88... the major snag is that it currently runs a 2.0, not the EFI 2.3, so i'm not sure how to tackle the wiring...

Thats easy. Just add a efi fuel tank and lines and I used a Merkur harness on a 2.0 87 I did years ago.

how simple is the merkur harness? does that mean i have to use a merkur computer, because i hear the LA3(t/c) is better...

Its the simplest 2.3t harness to use. You can use a TC ecm by just re-pinning a few wires. Very easy. Looking for more info check out turboford.org

more info would be nice... i've been on TRF for a while, and found some info, but it's difficult to find info because when i ask a question, almost everyone says to use the search function(which doesn't show much IMO) and i don't actually have an engine in front of me... honestly i would almost pay someone to do the initial swap for me and me mod it from there to avoid the headaches with getting it to run...

More progress tonite. Front mount installed, door seals in,bedliner finished, rear bumper on,cleaned-painted and installed the mirrors, windshield trim, locks, wipers and I spent $48 at the hardware on stainless screws for anything going on the outside of truck {inner liners, mirrors, mud flaps, etc}.
Started mounting my battery box in bed but didnt finish. Also started mocking up my Afco radiator and I have a pretty sweet idea for mounting that!
Im kinda jumpin all over but I just wana make sure stuff is getting done everynite now.If they put us back on overtime at work soon like I keep hearing I will be able to really knock this thing out soon.

Well tonite I tinted the rear window and got it put in all by myself. I hate sliders and love this nice clean blacked out look. Battery box is finished other than hookin up the cables and I welded to bolts to the frame for gound wires..One under the bed for the battery neg cable and another on the front framerail for the engine ground.

The original bumper cleaned up nice also.

Front mount.

And I cut up the heaterbox to make room for the downpipe.

And I decided since my new 8.8 is 3" wider than the 7.5 rear thats in it Im going to narrow the 8.8 the same 3" so I dont have any tire to bed clearance issues and still be able to stuff my 15x8.5 Centerlines and 275BFG DR under it.I will start gutting the 8.8 tomorrow.

Getting closer!

More progress...
Motor is in for the final time. Everything looks good except I didnt cut back my heater box enough so I have to pull that out and re-cut it and my throttle linkage hits the mastercylinder so I may be lookin at converting to manual brakes as well now.

Pulled the bed off to start on rear suspension and frame. Just cleaning and painting the frame along with removing the rear shackle brackets so I can flip them to get my 2" drop. Also making a crossmember behind the axle to mount my Strange adjustable drag shocks to.Running new fuel lines and Im going to mount up my mufflers while the bed is off.

Oh yeah...and I was playin with some electrical tape to get an idea how the stripe will look..

Still working on the rear suspension. I got my new shock crossmember in but Im still waiting on my tabs to show up. Cut the shock mounts off the 7.5 so I can weld to the 8.8 once its done. Gona be nice using foxbody shocks on this so I have way more options. Im going to add another tube down the center to connect the new and the last crossmember to use as a mount for my mufflers.

I also gutted the 8.8 and found out why I got it so cheap 5 years ago.....it had no oil in it and looks to be burned up inside. Now the shop smells like burned up gear oil...yum.

Started playin with the plumbing. After I have my upper intake cut and rewelded I can rotate it a bit more to clean my power brakes and then I can finish the plumbing on that side.

Got all the door and window seals in. Not real happy with the fit in a few places but thats as good as it gets.

Got the rear frame done and the shackle flip is done so its now dropped 2". yay. I also added the other bar for mounting the mufflers to. You can kinda see in the pix how I plan to hang the exhaust by the way they layin on the floor.

my burned up 8.8

Just gona have it dipped to clean it up before i narrow it.

Good progress lately.

Finally got my pitman arm on,new front shocks and cut 1 coil off to see how it sits.I will buy real drop coils after its completely back together and I can see how it sits. Fender liners are in and with all new screws.Window trim done and I threw the Centerlines on.

Finish making/routing all my coolant hoses tonite, hooked up boost control, made my own upper and lower radiator mounts, mounted a Flexalite fan, mounted VAM and I got my new gas tank, straps and sending unit ready to install. Waiting on fuel lines to show up then I can hook up the Walbro 255 frame mount and finish the fuel system.

And I picked up a set of Mountaineer traction bars you can see above^

More to come tomorrow....
