Redrockets 5.0 build & swap
Well i geuss that time has come for me to do one of these project threads.. last winter i picked up a 88 ranger 2wd manual every thing with the 2.0 carbed motor. for 200.00 bucks.
Sense before i found a truck i had been gathering parts for the swap. About a month ago i have the motor back from machine shop and put together. also have all my parts in. so now its just a matter of takeing the old one out and stuffing the 5.0 in.. ill up date this as more i make more progress.
when i first got her little ruff but that can be fixed
the old radio didnt work and was ducked taped in the dash.. so tour all of that out and wired in a pioneer head unit i had laying around
the old seats were shot. had tears in em and smelt like something died on em.
installed some black carpet i had laying around for the time being im going to order some molded carpet later down the rd. sense i had my old 00 ranger seats siting around i decided to mod the tracks and make em bolt in the 88 turned out nice i thank lot better than em other seats.
done some body work and got the truck in primer.. thank god its not white any more..
fyi the pic was took before the whole truck was finished beging primed
geting the 5.0 out of moms old 84 ltd crown vic
5.0 out ready to be took apart
block ready to go to machine shop.. took 3 months to get it back lol
while i was waiting for the block to get done. i painted all the pullys and painted the alt.. then made a lamp out of the old cam shaft and smog pump well used the pully off of it
got block back ready to be put together
cam, crank, pistons and rods installed
oil pan and oil pump and timeing chain and timeing cover installed
heads installed and waterpump installed ready for paint
intake, valve covers, headers , and carb is just siting their.. motor ready to be installed
picked up a rad and a efan and a explorer powersteering box.. that manual steering has got to go.
hopefully in the next 2 weeks ill get started on the install. hope to get started on it after the knox meet.

I think you may have accidentally posted pictures of the wrong truck...I believe your 2000 is the recipient of the 5.0. No biggy, easy fix, you can thank me later.....
Looks like a fun build! Any other plans for the truck? Lift, lower, sleeper, SAS? And what tranny are you going with? T5 T5 T5 T5 lol

well got a lot of work done this weekend.. ended up geting the old 2.0 out and geting the 5.0 down into its new home and boy they arnt kidding about clearance problems this is one long motor. gotta tuck the rad under the core support but its where its going to set i let the drive shaft figure out where the motor is going to sit and went from their
the old tired 2.0 almost out
out and good bye.. that had to be the most weekest motor i have ever had
5.0 going in for the last and finale time
in now to wire it and make a trans mount

With these body style rangers, all you hve to do is notch out both sides of the core support and slid the rad. Right down in the slot. That's the only way I'm going to be able to squeeze a radiator in mine. Unless I do e-fans and a radiator in the bed.
How come you didn't put your headers on before you dropped the motor in?

well worked on the truck again today. got the heater box back in after i cut the ac stuff out of it and patched in the big hole with sheat metal. it will work till i can get to the yard and pick up a non ac heater box and just heat it up with a heat gun... also got the shifter installed for the auto trans and got the tv cable installed on the trans and ran up to the motor. and went on the hunt for upper and lower rad hoses. ended up geting some universal hoses sense the others i tryed didnt have the bends i needed.. also got some of the wireing finished. still waiting on the e fan and throttle cable bracket kit for the carb and a new oil filter recloation kit sense summit sent me the wrong one.. ill get some pics up in the next few days after i get back from the knox meet.. looks like next week she should be runing again.
