Now when you say "no major issues" do you mean smokey coming and saying "you're using our power and meat is thawing..." Or "who started this forest fire?!?!"

I'm gonna try and get it done before so I wouldn't spend the coil if I were you.

I've got a snap on Mig welder that will do up to 1/4" plate that runs on 110.
I'd recommend getting something like that.

there are also plenty of locals that have shops and can weld. I had some work done on my shock hoop one year when it tore. I think he only charged me 40 bucks to fix it.

Still runs? It's only 60k miles.

4.6, the 5.0 wasn't an option in my year. I don't have ac that works and the gf has a journey that does so we take that.
This won't happen for a while, I have other finances I have to deal with first.

Ok, I'm gonna do an update as it hasn't happened in a bit. My starter was dying and I had to tap it a couple times so I bought a new one and installed it. Upon inspection, I found I broke my driver side coil.

I was fortunate to have two sets of 800 lbs coils from when I bough my kit. I'm using them and it's saving me $150.
Replacing them took me a while as the passenger side lower spacers and bolt had galvanic corroded together. Spacer is aluminum and bolt is steel.

I took the easier route, I cut the bracket, drilled the spacers and snapped them with a screwdriver and destroyed a bolt. In the end, it's all back together. A little more stiff with the 800 lbs coils but I can live with that.

I also replaced my key fob as my original was no longer unlocking my truck. I bought a dorman fob from napa for $50 and looked on YouTube to program it and save me a few bux and a dealer visit.

Explain what happened to that bolt? Something to consider with the hardware of that coil-over kit? First I've heard of any issues coming up so it's good information to know.

Aluminum and steel don't like each other. Google "galvanic corrosion". You have to have an isolator. Similar to if you use copper and aluminum wiring in your home. I'm assuming it only happened on the passenger side or happened quicker because of the gutter water and curbside puddles.

I don't know why my coil broke and as for the metals reacting, it could happen in anything. It's not specific to the coilover kit. It happened to the Statue of Liberty years and years ago.

I'm not putting down the kit that is for sale. I'm making that clear.
What might help though is using steel spacers instead of aluminum. If it's an option.

I am saying go to a home store such as Home Depot and ask for the isolator in the electrical dept. it's called anti-oxidant compound. It costs $4 and could save you from what I went through.

Right on.. good information to know. I'll look into that for sure.. for $4 it seems like a good idea, even if it's just a precaution.
