2003 on dana 44 and 9 inch
Started working on my diff, 9 inch with a detroit, superieur chromo 31 spline axles, disc brake conversion and ABS ring and sensor.
The front 44 is all cleaned and painted need to install the arb air locker 4.88 gear and superieur chromo axles. After that will try to fit the abs ring of a 2wd ranger on the hub with the 2wd sensor.

The gear are 4.88, i dont wont to have trouble at the inspection with the abs light or code so will see if it works in the front if not to bad. The 9 inch is suppose to come from a 75 early bronco. Im going to run 35-13.5-15 bf krawler. The 44 in the back is a rubicon, my friends have a 4x4 shop and they are currently installing a 6 inch teraflex suspension on it and are changing the gear and modifing the diff housing so it wont brake. Its so funny looking at my friend cutting the oem bracket of the frame knowing the truck is a 2009 and only has around 10 000k. Ill have to put picture of there work, if the customer ever brake is front 44 he really has a problem. They insert another tube in the inside and weld it in place but support brackets on the c ends, brackets for the upper right arm and skidplate for the lower arms
P.s. By the way if anyone wants do but abs on the rear 9 inch the 8.8 abs rings fits perfect on a detroit and center itself perfectly on it, it should also fit on a stock carrier. You just have to weld it in place and modifie the housing so the sensor can go lower.

The abs never kicked in offroad in the ranger for me, only on ice. The chevy flips the hell out in the mud though, I need to figure out what fuse it is so I can pull it next time I'm out recovering my friends.
You should look into narrowing an axle from an F150, I believe they're a beefier housing. Or get a ballin aftermarket housing from Ruff Stuff or Ballistic
And yea, I hope they reinforce the hell out of those jeep d44 tubes, I've seen pics of them broken.

the 9 is all painted just need and axle seal and to oversize the disc.
And here the front 44 of the jk after my friend has finish on it
The suspension is nearly finish
The tubing inserted in the housing is nearly half a inch thick, the shaft has just the clearance needed to move when turning

no way a d70 is way to big especially for a ranger. too much weight and too much drag, the 3 bearging pinion in thoose needs some ponies to turn it. plus there is the actuall ground clearence issue. they are worse than d60's on clearance. not to mention the width factor. as for the 60, most of them have the wrong side drop as it is. and if you do find them for the front there from a dodge so you have to deal with unit bearing crap.
as for rockwells. they have there place... in top truck challange.
i think the 9" he built can hand alot. way more than a ranger can throw at it...unless its c/overed and v8'd and crawlin in big binds. the 44 probly wont break either they are not to shabby

-you can shave a D70 so it won't have much worse clearance than a D60
-D70s are 35 spline rather than the 30 spline D60s which is the reason everyone goes D70, its a royal pain in the *** to put 35 spline shafts in a rear 60.. or so I've heard.
-You really don't need "horsepower" its all in the gearing
-Ground Clearance.... psh, you give that up when you go 1 tons, I got hung up on my 9" a few times, if you get hung up you just have to back up and give it some more throttle
-Its really not that hard to find a Ford HP Driver drop D60. Finding them for a good price is another issue.
-The D44 has the same size ujoints as a D30. Sure if you're nice to it, it'll hold up but much more than a DD/easy wheeler, I would never consider another D44. You can kinda beef them up, 35 spline outers, knuckls, truss, cryo gears.. but it'll still be just as strong as a stock D60 and you've already spent more money than you would have spent on a stock 60.
I will agree with your 9" comment. The 9" is a friggin hoss, and it can be built into a bulletproof axle. there's a reason its the base of almost every axle you see in rock racing and most offroad racing. Even in stock form 31 spline I wasn't ever worried about breaking it.

ok. eaton over them all... drop in thirds, and mega beef. the sterling 10.25's are damn strong as well. and hell if i were to spend the coin i would give dynatrac a call and get stet right up. 70's have there place, but i dont think a ranger would ever benefit from it, at least as long as your not runnin a charged high hourse sb or bb.

and now you're going way too strong a 70 is over kill but ****, give dynatrac a call and really spread you're legs and take it up the ***.. Why the hell would you spend 15,000+ (3 zeros) dollars when 1,500 (2 zeros) for a D60/70 of D60/14b would do just fine in stock form.
