yeah its one of those things thats just nice to do for yourself, cause the whole time thing just works out better. Unless of course it was you main job and thats all you had to do, then the time would work out alot better.

yea, by looking at the pics you should probably cage it now.. thats a ton of stress/leverage to be putting on those 4 welds.

Beard....you should build that headache rack tube on the rear into the cage inside. Or is that your plan?

Zach, I was wondering how you finished the edges of your fenders after trimming? They look super clean, love it. Care to share?

well i was planning on it but we have to take the cab off for the 5.4. So i wanted to wait.

oh yeah that was the plan all along. just not until after the engine.

what i do is rough cut them about a 1/2" from my line with the 4.5" electric grinder with a cut of wheel. then i toss on a flap disk with like 80 grit and slowly sand/grind my way to the line. it takes forever but the results are good. you have to take slow passes and take breaks because it will get too hot for the paint and peel it. Always hold the grinder so its spinning in to the fenders because it will peel the paint where this rolls it in. Then I mask the whole thing off and shoot it with primer/paint to seal that line back up. Id do several coats. Then finish it up by using that black plastic trim that people put on their doors/trunks to protect the edges. its already got a glue on it, so its pretty easy.

looking good....

I'm surprised Gonderman hasn't nutted and flown out from CA to help. Maybe he can overkill some axle welds for ya. LOL Freak'n Jason!

I think my truck may eventually go this way to some degree. Given RCD's discontinued the kit I'm entertaining the idea of dropping it and going DBR. Only way that happens is if I get a job at Sandia National Labs I've applied for. Starting is 58.6K versus my weak 31K I was making down in Las Cruces.

same here, but I just have more options with an sas around here. Sure I can go to the dunes, but not all the time. It would be damn fun though

i just like the fact of lower CG and the handling aspect. Also that I could run a 33 and my 4.0 wouldnt seem so under powered. 33s are cheap too. lol

damn 400+ a tire for the new ones I want. :(

I was actually about 100 miles from Zach a couple weeks ago and tried really hard to get by there. Myself and another coworker were driving from SoCal to Butler PA and had planned for the second day of our trip to land us in Indy, then swing by Zachs, but unfortunately we only made it to somewhere in mid-Illinois so we didn't have the time we had planned on for day three and had to just bust out getting to PA.

Then on our way home we were coming down from northern Michigan, but our track kept us far north, passing through Chicago.

I'll make it out there some day...

Funny you should mention this. LOL

awesome work Zach. i got a question tho. i know nothing about the setup your building, but just out of curiosity, where all the bars tie into the bulkhead at the frame, that's strong enough to take the load of the suspension? it just looks to me like the loop that follows the cab profile would hit the cab. again just wondering and wanting to learn more about your setup.

yeah hes doing that after the motor swap, cause he has to take the cab off for the swap. wouldnt bee too easy to do that after he caged it.
