Project "Cheep Jeep"

Just thought I'd show you guys what I've been working on here and there.

Me and a buddy picked up a 96 Cherokee for $150. Yes, you read that right. This lady was going to sell it to the junkyard and that's what they offered her.

We told her we'd give her $150. She thought it was totaled. That afternoon we drove it my buddy's house with huge grins on our faces.

Pic of what it looked like when we brought it home:

Our local junkyard had a exact matching fender for $75.

We got the header panel, headlights, headlight bezels and blinkers FOR FREE:

OLD:

NEW:

First problem:

We got a new bracket made to replace it, 1/4" steel. Hopefully doing that this weekend

We're having a custom bumper made FOR FREE, my friends uncle said he had a bunch of extra steel and if we drew up what we wanted, he'd make it

We also bought a 3.5 inch lift kit. Another buddy sold us 31x10.5 MT's (I already forgot the brand, pics later)

On top of all that, a local vocational school offered to do all the body and work and a paint job just for cost of materials. We know the teacher and he's always looking for more vehicles for his students to paint.

More updates over the weekend

Good deal. My brother in law picked at '97 Cherokee up last fall for $200. We did everything on the cheap as well... it now has a 5" lift, front/rear bumpers, bushwacker flares and a few other things! Keep us updated!

Got some more work done. We replaced the bent bracket, and straightened the lower control arm. We installed the front of the lift. It was a surprising amount of work, mainly with getting the axle back under the jeep.

I'm not going to explain every pic, you guys aren't stupid, you can see what we're doing. If you have any questions feel free to ask

Hopefully getting more done tomorrow

Looks good! Those things are fun to build and for the most part they're dirt cheap to mod!

$150!!! I would have bought that just for the front axle and steering stuff. That would have been a big chunk of my SAS for cheap!
